Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.

Auckland. —William Foster, gardener, Newmarket, reports thar, on the 2nd instant, he was assaulted by two men in the Domain, and robbed of ten £1 notes, on the Bank of New Zealand, numbers unkaown, a sovereign and a halfsovereign. Offenders are described as one being about thirty years of age, about 5 ft. 10 in. high, clean-shaved except moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, soft-felt hat pulled over his eyes. The other was about 6 ft. high, dressed in dark clothes, with soft-felt hat pulled over eyes. When struggling on the ground complainant cut one of the assailants on the hand with his knife. Identification doubtful.

Auckland. —Mrs. MarthaMillton, Union Bank, Palmerston North, reports stolen from her bedroom at Mr. Moritzson’s, Shortland Street, on the Ist or 2nd instant, a purse containing a sovereign, a gold-bar brooch, about 1 in. long, set with three diamonds and two sapphires; a small miniature brooch, with her daughter’s photograph in it: value, £6 11s. Brooches identifiable.

Auckland. —Agnes Emma Keith reports stolen from her bedroom in tbe Star Hotel, on the 2nd or 3rd instant, a ladies’ g4d ring, set half round with seven or eight diamonds; value £3O.

Avondale. —Mary Henrietta Cowan reports that about 4 a.m. on the 4th instant her dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : A ladies’ gold open-faced watch, No. 12121, is out of repair ; a long brown-silk cord watcb-chain, with gold bands about 10 in. apart; a gold-mounted oval mourning brooch, set with pearls : value, £ls. Identifiable. A short man, wearing a skull cap, was seen leaving the bedroom where the theft was committed, but no further description can be given.

Avondale. —Frederick Parker, labourer, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 24th ultimo, a Geneva lever open-faced nickel keyless watch, number unknown, glass cracked; a silver curb watch-ohain, “ Mexican silver ” stamped on the bar, a 1900 threepenny-piece attached : value, £2. Identifiable.

Ngaruawahia. —Abraham Ngabiwi, farmer, reports stolen from his dwelling, between the 11th and 20th ultimo, a silver Waltham watch, No. 612, front case de"»ed ; and three large pieces of gum : value, £5. Paeroa. Laurus Westengaard (known as Louis Westengor) is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 4th instant, of a double-barrelled central-fire gun, with brass disc on the right side of stock, bottom lever action, right barrel worn at muzzle; also, about £6 in notes and about £4 in gold and silver, tbe property of Messrs. Bertelsen and Erasmusen, dairy farmers : total value, £l9. Offender is a native of Denmark, about thirty years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, was employed rope-making by complainants, reddish moustache, thin in centre, Bttong at ends, broad shoulders, speaks English fairly well ; has a wart on back of head, left side, visible through the hair; generally wears broad gold ring on third right finger; will probably be wearing a greycoloured suit and cap, light boots, and carrying a small swag or parcel wrapped in his waterproof, probably fastened with a whip-thong. On the 4th instant, he took a ticket to Frankton Junction, at Tirohia Flag-station, and intended going to Auckland. The money was stolen from under a mattress in the bedroom.

Hastings. —May Ruddick, cook, reports stolen from her bedroom, Railway Hotel, on the 27th ultimo, a marooncoloured purse, containing eleven £1 notes. Purse only identifiable.

Foxton. —Albert Wickham, platelayer, Carnarvon, reports that, on the s'h instant, his dwelling was br ken into and the following stolen : A sovereign and a threepenny-piece ; a double-barrelled breech-loading gun, maker “ Kepp and Son,” crack in toe of stock and “ 1899 ” cut on one side of stock : value, £7 os. 3d.

Johnsonville. —Mrs. Thomas Furze reports stolen from her bedroom in the White Hart Hotel, Ngahanranga, in April last, a gold bar-brooch, set with eleven small pearls in centre, one missing; a gold bar-brooch, sbamiook design on it set with pearls, ametuyst in centre: value, £4 10s.

Wellington. —Alexander McTavisb, clerk, Fitzherbert Terrace, reports stolen from the office of the Club Hotel, on the 18th ultimo, a black infantry overcoat with white specks through it, no caps, lined in body with canvas, large collar, brass buttons removed and replaced by black ones. In one of the pockets there was a small black-leather purse containing £lO in notes and gold, a “B.B.B.” pipe, a rubber folding tobacco-pouch, and a black and-orange scarf; value, £l2 Bs. Purse and coat only identifiable.

Wellington. —Henry Hedlands reports stolen from his bedroom in the Private Hotel, Ingestre Street, on the 19th ultimo, a gentlemen’s gold double watch-chain, curb pattern, with compass and square attached; also, £2 10s. in gold and 15s. in silver: total value, £6 15s. Chain identifiable.

Wellington. —On the 22nd ultimo there was stolen from tbe strangers’ room in the Commercial Travellers’ Club, Hunter Street, a dark-green plush table-cover with frill edge, W with C T at top corners and W A at bottom corners worked in centre with yellow cotton ; value, £1 Bs. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Mary Howell reports stolen from a cupboard in her dwelling, No. 13, Cambridge Terrace, on tbe 3rd instant, a ladies’ gold hunting-watch, maker and number unknown ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Kenneth Smith, jeweller, 230, Willis Street, reports supposed stolen from him, on the 17th May last, a silver keyless bunting-watch, No. 5013695, maker “ Elgin ”; a 9-carat gold albert chain with long links, each alternate link twisted resembling the figure 8; a bunch of keys with steel chain, and a purse containing four sovereigns : total value, £l3. Watch-chain and keys identifiable.

Wellington. —Mrs. Henry Sutton reports stolen from her at the Manawatu Railway-station, on the 17th ultimo, a small black-morocco purse, containing a £5 note, two firstclass return-tickets to Hawera, and a plain gold brooch, “ M. A. S.” engraved on it, value £1 ss.

Wellington South.— David Henry Davies, baker, reports that, on the 18th ultimo, his dwelling and shop were broken into, and the following stolen: About £2O in notes, gold, and silver; a gentlemen’s 9-carat gold hunting Rotherham watch, No. 34719 ; a 9-carat gold double-curb chain with a square gold locket attached ; a gentlemen’s silver hunting lever watoh, supposed maker “Denniston,” number unknown; value, £44 6s. Manners Street (Wellington). —Martin Finnigan reports stolen from his bedroom, 42, Ghuznee Street, on the Ist or 2nd instant, a gold albert chain, 9-carat stamped on each link, thick in centre, a small piec6 of chain hanging from the bar; also ss. in silver: value, £2 15s. Chain identifiable.

Mount Cook (Wellington).-— Elizabeth Bedford reports stolen from her dwelling, 38, Cambridge Terrace, on the 3rd instant, a ladies’ nearly new navy-blue tweed mackintosh, double breasted, two rows of black buttons down the front, velvet collar, plaid lining, yoke lined with dark satin, brass chain tab, maker’s name (not known) in yellow print on the inside ; value, £2 10s.

Mount Cook (Wellington). —Mary Asbbridge reports stolen from her dwelling, 51, Wallace Street, on the 3rd ultimo, a p ain wide band 18-carac gold wedding-ring; a 9carat gold dress ring, set with two pearls and a ruby, one pearl missing, edge of ring worn, showing it hollow inside: value, £2 17s. Gd. Identifiable.

Riverton. —Rev. Gerard W. Davidson, reports that, between the 15th and 19th ultimo, bis dwelling in Havelock Street was broken into, and the following stolen : A gold key brooch with opal in centre, a gold scarf-pin set with opal, a brown-leather purse containing about 9s. in silver, and a pair of half-worn blue-black trousers ; value, £3 10s. Identifiable except money.
