(See Police Gazette, 1900, page 55.) Auckland. —Emma Agnes Bailer, charged with theft, has been arrested by Constable F. A. Waterman, Auckland polioe, and the property recovered.

Auckland. —Edwin William Nesbit Holloway, charged with theft from the Public Trustee, has been arrested by the Sydney police, and remanded to Auckland.

Kawakawa. — William Ryland is charged on warrant with shooting a pig with intent to steal the carcase. Description : A colonial, a gum-digger, about twenty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, brown hair, clean-shaved, fresh complexion, medium build, active appearance. Last seen in Auckland on the 31st January, 1900.

Palmerston North.— Annie Smith (correct name supposed Fanny Bourke) is charged on warrant with false pretences on Theodore Barclay, on the 10th instant. Description : About twenty-eight years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, slight build, stooped, dark hair, pale complexion, prominent nose supposed crooked ; dressed when last seen in a blue-grey skirt and white blouse; said to have a brother employed on the railway at the Summit. Offender gave a cheque to complainant for £4 ss. in favour of Annie Smith, purporting to be signed by W. J. Welsh, of Masterton, whioh was valueless.

Masterton. — Randal Stewart is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace (Wellington) Gaol for one month for using indeoent language in apublio place. Description : A shoemaker, about twenty-seven years of age, about 5 ft. 4 in. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair, dark moustaohe only out short; dressed in dark-tweed suit, brown Dr. Jim hat; was a member of the Masterton band, and recently came from Oamaru. He was summoned for the offence, but failed to appear.

Carterton. — James Michael Neary is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Prison, Wellington, for three months’ labour in default of paying £lO 6s. fine and costs for wilful damage to property. Description : A native of Wanganui, a horse-breaker, thirty-four years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, pale freckled complexion, large brown moustache, dark-brown hair turning grey, grey eyes; generally dressed in dark-serge suit and brown soft-felt hat. Wellington. Sydney Wright, 39, Featherston Street, reports that on the Ist instant he hired a bioycle “to a young man who cannot be described,” and it has not been returned, or, if returned, was immediately stolen from his shop. Description : A gentlemen’s bicycle, maker Stearns, No. under centre bracket, black frame, yellow wood rims, Morgan and Wright tires, steel handles turned up, brake worked direct from the centre of handle-bar, head tube dented, direct saddle-post, and a wearing-strip on front tire; value, £l4.

Picton. — Peter Collins is charged on warrant of commitment to Picton Gaol for fourteen days. Description : A native of Cornwall, a miner and labourer, forty-eight years of age, 5 ft. 6J in. high, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on forehead and throat; dressed in blue shirt, serge coat, grey-tweod trousers, cloth cap, and blucher boots. He was ordered to pay £1 10s. for medical expenses and maintenance when on remand, but has failed to do so.

Christchurch. William, alias William P., Hoggard, charged with being an idle and disorderly person, has been arrested by Constable John Fahey, Christchurch police.

Methven. — H. C. Shaw is charged on warrant with false pretences on Frederick Powell, hotelkeeper. Offender is a native of Australia, about thirty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, whiskers cut short, rather sharp features, good address; was wearing a mixed suit of tweed ; said he was a wool-classer. He gave a valueless cheque to Mr. Powell for £1 in payment for board, and received 7s. change.

Dunedin. —Messrs. Wilson and McKay, bicycle agents, St. Andrew Street, report that on the 24th February last a man, name unknown, hired a bicycle from them and has net returned it; he is supposed to have sold it. Description : About twenty years of age, about 5 ft. 4 in. high, slim build, fresh complexion, fair hair, small fair moustache only; dressed in blue-serge sac-suit and blue-serge cap. The bicycle is a gentlemen’s Raglan road racer, No. 31035, Dunlop tires, dropped handle-bars, rat-trap pedals, blackenamelled frame and spokes ; value, £l2.
