Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.

Auckland. —Charles Chilcott, Mount Albert, reports that on she 7th or Bth instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : Two pictures, “ The Death of Nelson ” and “ Battle of Waterloo,” each 3ft. by 2i§ ft., gilt frapies, a pair of blankets, a new quilt, and six white wine-glasses; value, £3 17s. 6d.

Auckland.— M. Flaherty (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with having, on the sth instant, stolen from a dwelling at Manukau Road, Epsom, a vicuna sac-suit, a white shirt, straw hat, and a pair of lace-up boots newly half-soled, value £4 135., the property of Herman Hooper; and two £1 notes, 10s. in silver, and a Waterbury watoh, the property of Thomas Higgins. Offender is about eighteen years of age, about 5 ft. 2 in. high, dark hair and complexion, slight build, two front teeth decaying, wart on back of one wrist, usually works as a kitchen band. He was employed as cook at the house, and left his own clothes behind. May be wearing the stolen clothing.

Masterton. —On the 6th instant the dwelling of James Coradine, contractor, was burglarously entered by two men, who stupefied the inmates with chloroform and stole the following: A ladies’ imitation crocodileskin handbag, containing ten £1 notes, and a purse containing three £1

notea and 18s. in silver, the property of James Coradine ; a brown morooco-leather purse, containing three £1 notes, a half-sovereign, and Bs. in silver, the property of Ruth Burton; and a brown morocco-leather purse, containing £1 155., the property of Joseph Whittaker. Mrs. Coradine was awakened by feeling something being placed on her face, and saw two men in the room, but can give no description of them.

Wellington. Ernest Lester Mowbray, clerk, Lower Hutt, reports stolen from the Junior Club, Wellington, on the 15th ultimo, a light-fawn overcoat, three-quarter size, chain-tab, small patch under left arm-pit, and patch about 6 in. square on left side ; value, £2.

Wellington. —Mrs. Sophia Carpel, second-hand dealer, Riddiford Street, reports stolen from her bedroom, on the 26th ultimo, a ladies’ gold Geneva lever half-hunting watch, maker’s name and number unknown; gold chain, small twisted links, with two gold tassels and split-ring attached : value, £lO.

Wellington. —Mrs. Prank Wise, 39, Willis Street, reports stolen from her bedroom, between the 29th ultimo and 6th instant, a ladies’ rolled-gold Waterbury open-faced watch, small size, value £1 10s.; and a ladies’ long gold neck-chain, square links, much worn, some of them repaired with fine wire, small heart-shaped gold locket with her husband’s photograph inside attached; value, £3.

Dunedin. —May Thomson, waitress, Coffee Palace, Moray Place, reports stolen from her bedroom, on the 6th instant, a ladies’ silver Geneva open-faced watch, No. 181031; value, £1 10s. Suspicion attached to Edgar Slamm, who ocoupies an adjoining room. Description: English, twenty-three years of age (looks younger), 5 ft. 2 in. high, medium build, clean-shaved, dark-brown hair and eyes, sallow complexion; dressed in a navy-blue sac suit and hard black-felt hat; an hotel-porter by occupation. Still in Dunedin.
