(See Police Gazette, 1899, page 89.) Auckland. —Agnes Thompson, alias Austin, charged on warrant of commitment in default of paying a fine and costs for keeping a brothel, has been arrested by Constable J. P. Miller and lodged in Mount Eden Gaol.

Helensville.— Kenneth McLean Black is charged on warrant with having, on the 20th ultimo, forged and uttered to Ernest Samuel Stretton a oheque for £5. Description : Scotch, fifty-three years of age, 5 ft. 10£in. high, well built, erect gait, fresh complexion, light brown or almost grey hair, grey beard and whiskers and moustache (whiskers and beard cut short) ; dressed in a rough light-tweed saccoat, tweed trousers, soft brown-felt hat, and red scarf-tie. The cheque is drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Auckland, and was signed “ Robert Blackrn,” but has been returned marked “No account.” Offender gave it to complainant in payment of two days’ board, receiving £4 10s. 9d. change.

New Plymouth.— Roy Pardon, charged with the theft of Hal Goodacre’s compasses (recovered), has been arrested by Detective Herbert and Constable Mcllveney, Auckland police, and remanded to New Plymouth. Offender’s correct name is Archibald Roy Parvin.

Pungarehu. — Arthur Pardington is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 27th ultimo, of a pair of grey pepper-and-salt tweed trousers, size 5, well worn, with patch of blue serge on seat, value 35.; the property of his employer, Charles Crisp, farmer. Accused is said to be English, but speaks with a slight Scotch accent, a labourer, about twenty years of age, 5 ft. 4 in. or 5 in. high, long thin pale features,

grey eyes, sharp nose, bad teeth, discoloured and almost black, thin but prominent lips, thick brown hair, especially thick above forehead, slight build but appears broad between shoulders, active upright walk, rather effeminate ways, blushes when spoken to sharply; dressed in a dark coat, navy-blue serge trousers, white shirt-front, high white collar, large light necktie, and India kip boots with steel sprigs or small nails in place of toe-caps; may wear spectacles. May be a woman in male attire. Supposed to have gone to Eltham or Hawera.

Kimbolton. —Thomas Charles Denton, labourer, Colyton, reports that on the 16th ultimo a man, named John Ballock, obtained from him the loan of a horse to go to the Palmerston Show, and was to have returned it on the 19th, but has not done so. The horse is described as a bay, four years old, 14J hands high, hind feet white, shod all round, scars from barbed wire on both sides, no brand; value, £B. Ballock is Scotch (broad accent), a labourer, about twenty-three years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, shaved except dark moustache ; dressed in a grey-tweed suit, and skull cap. It is supposed that he will sell the horse, if he has not already done so. No warrant.

Foxton. — Alexander Maxwell is charged on two warrants of commitment to the Wellington Gaol, one for four days’ labour in default of paying £1 75., fine and costs for threatening behaviour, and the other for four days’ labour for begging. Description : Scotch, an engineer (formerly of the s.s. “ Planet,” from Auckland), about forty-six years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, shaved except dark moustache ; dressed in a blue-cloth coat, dark-tweed trousers, and hard blaok-felt hat. Seen in Wellington on the 23rd ultimo.

Wellington. —Stanley Joseph, charged with false pretences on Sydney Black, has been arrested bv Detective G. Fitzgerald, Timaru police, and remanded to Wellington.

Dunedin. — Kenneth McLeod is charged on three warrants of commitment in default of paying fines and costs, as follows: 15s. 6d., for damaging a constable’s uniform; and £2 10s. on each of two charges of being found on lioensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order. Description: Scotch, thirty-four years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, stout build, high square shoulders, head slightly stooped when walking, blue eyes, fair complexion, fair hair inclined to curl, fair moustache, and had about a fortnight’s growth

of beard and whiskers when last seen; usually wears a greytweed suit, and cap. Was formerly employed as a seaman, and foundry hand, and may endeavour to leave the colony in a sailing vessel.

Dunedin. —On the 20th ultimo, a man, name unknown, indecently assaulted two school girls at Caversham. Offender is described as about 5 ft. 10 in. high, inclined to be stout, shaved except reddish moustache, a few pimples on one side of his face; wore a dark coat and vest, light-tweed trousers, and light Doctor Jim hat. Can be identified. No warrant.

Maritzburg (Natal). — James Dawson is charged on warrant with embezzling £7OO. Description : A book-keeper, thirty-four years of age, 5 ft. 3 in. or 4 in. high, ruddy complexion, reddish moustache, dissolute habits; has a large American travelling-trunk. He left Natal on the 15th October last for New Zealand, and has friends residing at Dunedin. Was accompanied by his wife, slender build, very showy, light hair, probably false. Arrest important, with a view to his return under the Fugitive Offenders Act. (99/2065.)
