Melton, licensee, Mangawai Hotel,, reports stolen from his paddock, on the 4th instant, a chesnut/ horse, seven years old, 14 hands high, mane parted, fringe lately cut, two white fetlocks, half-moon on forehead, shoes recently taken off; value, £4 10s. Taubanga.—A. B. Chappell, Government Life Insurance agent, reports stolen from a paddock, on the 26th or 27th. ultimo, a bay gelding, about eleven years old, about 15 hand& high, the only white spot is a saddle-mark on back, brushes in front legs, horseshoe brand on off shoulder,shod allround; value, £B. Suspicion attached to Thomas Smith, who worked for complainant. Description : Colonial, a labourer, about twenty years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, stout build, brown hair, none on face. Supposed to have gone to Levin, or Papawai, near Greytown North.
