Horse- and Cattle-stealing.
Port Albert. John F. Smyth, Wayby, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 18th ultimo and 4th instant,
the thoroughbred mare “ Edith Mary,” by “ Dolphin,” brown with black points, fine bone, six years old, about 14£ hands high ; value, £25.
Ohingaiti. —Edward Pohe Chase, bullock-driver, Raetihi, reports stolen from Stoke’s Yard, Ohingaiti, during March, 1895, a light-bay gelding, 16 hands high, branded TC on shoulder; value, £2O.

Waitotara. —George Smith’s mare was sold to Alexander Hatrick, Wanganui, on the 12th April, 1896, by a man who gave the name of J. Williams, which is probably fictitious. He is described as supposed colonial, twenty-six or twentyseven years of age, sft. 6in. or 7in. high, stoutish build, fair complexion, fair moustache only; wore a dark suit. Can be identified. Warrant issued by Wanganui Bench.

Wanganui.— Harry Pitt, alias George Yersey or Vesey, charged with the theft of Hamarama’s two mares (recovered): This offender called at the Tapuaehararu Maori settlement, near Taupo, about the 20th ultimo, and went in the direction of Thames, saying he was going to Waihi. He has now a very small fair moustache, was riding a bay horse (probably stolen), and carried a small swag. His arrest is very important.
Waipawa. —Thomas Jeffrer Pendary, carter, reports stolen on the 19th ultimo a bay gelding, light-hack breed, about three years old, about 15£ hands high, branded on off shoulder, white saddle-mark on off side of back, a good jumper, shod all round; value, £B.
Ashburton. —Arthur George Williams, labourer, Tinwald, reports stolen from a paddock at Clent Hills Station, Ashburton Gorge, between the 20th and 24th ultimo, a bay trotting mare, black points, eight years old, about 15 hands high, no brands, white streak down face, Roman nose, a small piece of flesh protruding at corner of near eye, one hind fetlock white, forelegs puffed, scar resembling a barbed-wire cut on inside of off foreleg; value, £l2.

Oxford (Canterbury). —Stealing Thomas Shea’s gelding, saddle, and bridle: The suspect, William Smith, has been arrested by Constable J. Weatherley, Bealey police, for this offence, and committed for trial. Stolen property recovered.
