Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

Dannevirke. —Thomas Fitzsimmons and a man named Woods are charged on warrant with the theft, on the 30th ultimo, of a new tent, marked 8 x 10 over 2, and fly ; value, £1 155.; the property of David Smith. Fitzsimmons is a colonial, twenty-five years of age, slight build, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, sandy or carroty complexion, freckled face, thin features, sandy moustache only, inflamed eyes, a compositor by trade, but has been employed in a circus ; dressed in a dark-tweed suit. Woods is an Englishman, about twentyfive years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, heavy muscular build, double-jointed, has been an acrobat, fair complexion and moustache only; wore a light-grey tweed suit and knitted Tam o’ Shanter cap. They are supposed to have gone to Ashurst, en route to Wellington.

Lower Hutt. —William Ross, at Bannatyne and Co.’s, Hunter Street Wellington, reports stolen from outside the Family Hotel, Lower Hutt, on the 6th instant, a pneumatic Star bicycle, 1896 pattern, black-enamelled, 2131 stamped under bracket, and 9581 near fork-stays, in good condition, rubber pedals, mud-guards to each wheel, no brake or bell, plated handle-bars, black vulcanite handles, pneumatic seat, not blown out and resting on frame, Dunlop tire on front wheel, and new plain tire on hind wheel, tangent spokes, “ Adam Curtis Star Cycle Company ” on back stay of frame ; value, £2O.

Lyttelton. —William Cormack Stewart, commercial traveller, 14, Aldred Street, Christchurch, reports stolen from him in Lyttelton, on the sth or 6th instant, a gold lever double-cased hunting watch, number and maker’s name unknown, W.C.S. in monogram on back, value £lO ; a gold chain, dog-chain pattern, with spade guinea, George 111., 1892, attached, value £7 10s.; and a gold scarf-pin, Fleur de Lys pattern, with diamond in centre, value £3. Suspicion is attached to John Jones, English, a fireman, nineteen years of age, sft. 7£in. high, medium build, fair complexion, red hair, brown eyes ; dressed in a grey-tweed coat and trousers, no vest, blucher boots, and grey skull-cap. Christchurch. —George Talbot, merchant, Opawa, reports stolen from his stable, on the 2nd or 3rd instant, a Kaiapoi carriage-rug, large size, brown on one side, green plaid on the other, with fringe at each end; value, £2 10s.

Christchurch. —Andrew Anderson, civil engineer, St. Martin’s, reports stolen from off his horse, on the sth or 6th instant, a canvas cover with light woollen lining; value, £l. Also, from his coach-house, a Kaiapoi carriage-rug, brown check on one side, light-check on the other; value, £1 10s.

Timaru. —Daniel Clarke, carpenter, reports stolen from a house in course of erection in Church Street, on the 9th instant, a Swiss silver open-faced watch, much worn, steel chain attached ; value 10s.

Methven. —Frank R. Baker reports stolen from the Railway Goods-slied, between the 24th ultimo and Ist instant, a sack, marked F.R.B. over M, containing five bags of turnip seeds; value, £3 ss. sd.

Methven. —John Baker, butcher, reports stolen, between the 2nd and sth instant, seven sheepskins (merino ewes) branded AB in red raddle on middle of back, and red dot on rump ; value £1 4s. 6d.

Dunedin. —Mrs. J. C. Brown, Telephone Department, reports stolen from a portmanteau, about the 24th ultimo, a black-satin bodice, trimmed with lace ; value, £2 10s.

Milton. —The New Zealand Loan and Trust Company reports stolen from their Roxburgh Station, near Glenore, on the 7th or Bth instant, twenty-two cross-bred sheep fleeces, branded TXL (indistinct) ; value, £4.

Alexandra South. —A. C. Avison, farmer, Earnsclough Flat, reports stolen, on the 26th ultimo, an old saddle, recently repaired, having a new piece of leather over the tree and on each flap, newly stuffed, white lining, split-leather girth, the buckles having been shifted so as to shorten it value, £3. Suspicion attached to Peter Robertson, or Robison, a labourer, about fifty years of age, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, medium build, full dark whiskers and moustache, turning grey, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in a dark-grey tweed suit. He is said to belong to Dunedin.
