Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.

Thames. —James Sawyer, billiard-marker, Royal Hotel, reports stolen, between the 7th and 9th ultimo, three billiard-balls two white, one red, the latter identifiable; value, £3 3s. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, of whom the only description that can be given is that he was dressed in dirty grey trousers, brown coat, and soft black-felt hat; had a moustache only. He went to Auckland by steamer, and can be identified.

Paeroa. —Christopher Shaw, miner, Karangahake, reports that, on the 17th ultimo, his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen: A silver lever hunting-watch, No. 168515, makers Grow and Son, Melbourne, value £5 ; a silver chain, small links, value 155.; and Bs. in silver.

Otorohanga. —Frederick William Hunt, storekeeper, Te Kuiti, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 21st or 22nd ultimo, a silver Waltham open-faced watch, number unknown, “ Ratima ” scratched inside case ; and a gold chain, long links, wicli two or three very small ones next to bar, each link marked 9c.: value, £l2.

Gisborne. —George Garrett, Gladstone Road, reports that, on the 26tb or 27th ultimo, bis premises were burglariously entered, and the following stolen : Two pairs of gentlemen’s Balmoral boots, size 6, “ Criterion ” and “ Cowper Soleless ” brands respectively; one pair ditto, size 7, stamped “ 6996 ”on soles ; two pairs of ladies’ kid shoes, size 5, “ Made in America ” on soles ; a pair of ladies’ calf kid shoes, size 5, flower worked on toe-caps ; a pair of ladies’ calf kid boots, size 3, stamped “396” inside; a pair of children’s tan shoes, size 7, “ 2446 ” in ink on soles ; a pair of children’s strapped shoes, size 10, same figures on soles ; and three pairs of children’s French-calf lace-up boots, sizes 10 and 11, “|No. 15276” on soles: value, in all, £6 3s. 6d. Identification doubtful.

Wellington. —Bertrand Napolen, seaman, s.s. “ Stormbird,” reports stolen from him at the Skating Rink, on the Ist instant, an English silver lever hunting-watch, much worn ; value, £1 10s.

Wellington. —John Richard Knipe, labourer, reports stolen from the Bay View Boarding-house, about the 3rd instant, a portmanteau, containing a watch, a light-tweed sac suit, size 5, value £2 ; and a dark waterproof overcoat with sleeves and cape, cream-coloured lining, value 15s. Portmanteau (cut open) and watch recovered.

Christchurch. --William White, fishmonger, Princes Street, Dunedin, reports stolen from him at Christchurch, on the 10th ultimo, twenty-eight £1 notes, a white-silk handkerchief, value 4s. 6d. ; and a gold chain, curb pattern, each link marked “ 15c.,” value £lO.

Christchurch. —John Bel worthy, labourer, Opawa, reports that, about 1.30 a.m. on the 28th ultimo, his dwelling was broken into, and three £1 notes and ss. stolen. A twoshilling piece, marked with a cross and very much worn, can be identified.

Dunedin. —Michael Fitzgerald, labourer, reports stolen from him at the Forbury Racecourse, on the 25th ultimo, an old brown-leather purse, containing ten £1 notes.

Wyndham.— John Morrison, Storekeeper, Pine Bush, reports that, on the 22nd ultimo, bis dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : A tweed coat, small blue-check pattern, has been worn for some time, large patch round pocket on right side ; a dark-tweed vest, half worn ; a pair of darktweed trousers, strapped, dark small grey-check material; a pair of short leather leggings ; a clothes-brush ; and silvermounted pipe in case : value, £3 3s.
