Aratapu (Auckland). — Stephen King, and William Huby, alias George McKnight, alias Miller, alias Cook, gum-diggers, are charged on warrants of commitment to Mount Eden Gaol for fourteen days’ labour in default of £1 12s. each, fines and costs, for having dead native pigeons in their possession. Description : King is English, thirty-three years of age, sft. 9in. high, stoutish build, fair complexion, lightbrown hair and moustache, round face ; Huby Irish, about fifty years of age, sft. sin. high, swarthy grizzled appearance, very much bow-legged, scar on one cheek (like a hole), fond of drink. They have black-and-white fox-terriers with them.

Coromandel. —Bert Jones is charged on warrant with the theft, about the 30th ultimo, of £1 3s. and £3 10s., moneys of his employer, John Lynch, butcher. Offender is about twenty-five years of age, but looks much younger, sft. 3in. or 4in. high, fair complexion, light-brown hair, clean-shaved except fair moustache, blue eyes, medium build, smart horsey appearance ; dressed in a black diagonal suit with horse-shoe buttons on coat and vest; frequents hotels, and is very fond of billiards. He collected the above amounts, but failed to account for them, and went to Auckland on the Ist instant, thence to Dunedin on the 7th. Other charges pending. Arrest important.

Wanganui. —Jabez Wallis is charged on warrant with false pretences on Ralph Tibbetts, dairyman, on the 24th ultimo. Description: About twenty-seven years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair and moustache, middle finger missing from one hand, wears a straw hat with black band, and a dark suit of clothes. Offender obtained £1 by giving an order on Gibbons and Hole, who he falsely represented owed him that amount.

Wellington. —William Doyle, charged with having assaulted and robbed Alfred Rigs, has been arrested by Detective W. Maddern, Christchurch police, and remanded to Wellington.

Christchurch. —Karaitiana is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 26th October, 1895, of a bicycle, value £2O, the property of Thomas Boyd, Manchester Street, since recovered. Offender is a Maori, between thirty and forty years of age, about sft. 9in. high, medium build, light complexion, clean-shaved except small moustache; dressed, when last seen, in a brown covert coat, light-check trousers, and soft brown-felt hat with puggaree and three feathers. He hired the bicycle on the above date, and it was subsequently found in possession of a Maori at Dannevirke.

Christchurch. — Peter Yansen, charged with the theft of George Chinnery’s harness, has been arrested by Constable R. Marsack, and sentenced to six months’ labour.

Kurow (Oamaru). —William King (commonly known as “ Crying Bill ”) is charged on warrant with having, on the 30th November, 1895, at Mount Parker, attempted to commit buggery on Sydney Jamison, a cowboy, aged fifteen years. Offender is a native of Tasmania, a shearer and fencer, sixty years of age, 6ft. high, has been a powerfullybuilt man, but is now bent with rheumatism, fresh complexion, beard nearly white and cut short, upper lip shaved; usually wears a blue-serge suit, and rides a heavybuilt bay mare ; continually talks of his bad luck and losses; is well known in South Canterbury and Hawke’s Bay. Supposed to have gone up Waitaki through the Mackenzie country.

Dunedin. —Harry Price, alias Henry Herbert Harding, is charged on warrant with having, on the 14th ultimo, wilfully and maliciously broken three panes of glass, value 55., in the windows of Georgina Jane Meredith, Leith Street. Offender is a native of the colony, a labourer, about thirty years of age, sft. 6in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, fair moustache only, blue eyes, boil-mark on left knee-cap, and enlarged nail on third ;riglit finger.
