Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

Cambridge (Waikato). —Stolen from the grounds of the Oddfellows’ Hall, on the 16th instant, a black gelding, aged, 15 hands high, white face and legs, old scar on face, branded like HE (conjoined) on one shoulder, value £5 ; the property of Charles Arnold: an old colonial-made saddle, large size, torn about cantle, new stirrup-leathers, old rusty irons, value £1 10s. ; the property of William Perkins : a single-reined bridle with nickel-silver bit and horseshoe-shaped buckles, value 10s.; the property of James Dean : and a bay gelding (since recovered), a medium-sized saddle with hogskin seat and knee-pads (the latter small), imitation hogskin flaps, leather girth, nickel-silver stirrup-irons, value £2 10s. ; and a single-reined bridle, without choke-strap, value 55.; the property of Ben Garland. Suspicion attached to two men, names unknown, supposed to be spielers. Description: First, between thirty-five and forty years of age, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, stout build, fair complexion, small fair sidewhiskers, shaved on chin; dressed in a dark coat, light vest and trousers, and hard hat. Second, between thirty and thirty-five years of age, sft. 9in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark moustache only, flesh-mark on one cheek ; wore a dark suit and hard hat.

Matakoke (Auckland). —Joseph Ovens reports stolen, between the Ist and 17th ultimo, four fat bullocks, four years old, square bit out of the back of near ear, branded Q on near rump, two of them red with white heads, no description given of the others ; value, £24.

Matakohe (Auckland). —Richard Smith reports stolen, since June last, about one hundred four-toothed half-bred wethers, A out of back of right ears, not branded; value, £62. Maoris suspected.

Palmerston North. —Michael Ryan is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 12th August, 1895, of a racingmare, value £2OO, the property of James Gordon, cabproprietor, Sydney. Offender is Irish, about thirty-eight years of age, about sft. 7in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, clean-shaved except brown moustache, squint in one eye, flat feet, a horse trainer. He leased the mare from complainant, and sold it to Andrew Roberston, of Palmerston North, who has now possession of it.

Dunedin. —James Morris Wilson, poundkeepor, North Dunedin, reports that, on the 2nd ultimo, the pound was broken into, and a light-coloured chestnut mare (riding hack) about fifteen years old, about fifteen hands high, one fore-leg swollen, stolen. The padlock and chain were also taken.

Gore. —George M. Bell reports stolen at Stoney Creek, between the Ist and 26th ultimo, ten hoggets, mixed sexes, brand like a bell on black, ear-marked (diamond), ewes on near ear, wethers on off ear; value, 6s. each.
