Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

Auckland. —Elizabeth Kissling, Burleigh Street, reports stolen from the Opera-house, on the 22nd instant, a small pair of opera-glasses, bound with black Russian leather, front edges gilt with gold, in a dark leather case with small strap attached, “ J. R. Connell ” stamped on inside of case, and probably “ J. R. C.” on plate in front of glasses ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Kihikihi. —William George Kay, farmer, Parawera, reports stolen from a workshop, on the 11th or 12th instant, a colonial-made saddle, pigskin seat, nearly new, maker’s name “McNaught,” stamped in Roman letters on outside of flaps, straps for surcingle on the latter, leather roller-girth, holes in stirrup-leathers numbered, white-metal stirrupirons; value, £4 10s. Maoris suspected.

New Plymouth. John Drury, coachman at Oliver Samuel’s, reports stolen from an outhouse, on the sth or 6th instant, a dark-brown tweed sac-coat, square pattern, large and small pocket on right side, two large pockets on left side ; a vest of same material ; an old dark tweed vest, torn at back ; a small brown notebook ; a white silk handkerchief with brown border, stained with fruit, and an old soft greyfelt hat with blue cord: value, £1 4s. Also, the property of Oliver Samuel, a hanging looking-glass, 18in. by 12in., a comb, and set of shoe-brushes ; value, 12s. 6d.

Danevirke. Theft of James McNaughton’s clothes: George Lund has been arrested for this offence by Constable T. Drake, and remanded. Stolen property recovered.

Wellington. —Frank Oakley, tailor, Lambton Quay, reports stolen from his shop, on the Ist or 2nd instant, a pair of new black-worsted trousers, full size, “ Cook and Oakley ” on buttons; and a vest of the same material, bound with black tracing-braid : value, £2 15s.

Wellington. —Walter Coath, clerk, Bank of New Zealand, reports stolen from the National Insurance Buildings, on the 11th instant, a bicycle ; value, £2O (since recovered). It was pledged for £6 at Zachariah’s pawn-office by a man who gave the name of S. Philson (probably fictitious), who is described as about twenty-five years of age, about sft. sin. high, stoutish build, dark complexion, dark moustache only ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, and hard black-felt hat. Can be identified.

Wellington. —The articles stolen from Halley and Ewing’s factory have been found in the yard, where they had evidently been placed by the thief.

Lyttelton. —Charles Milward, master, s.s. “ Otarama,” reports stolen from the vessel, on the 13th instant, a 5-gallon tin of dark-red paint, tin marked “ Holzappel’s International Composition No. 2 Paint ” ; value, £7.
