Aratapo (Auckland).— Victoria Montorfano is charged on warrant, issued by the Dargaville Bench, with having, on the 28th May last, obtained £llO by forgery. Description : A French Canadian, thirty-seven years of age, sft. sin. high, dark complexion, masculine appearance, speaks English fairly well; dressed in black. She forged the signature of her husband, Frank Montorfano to a withdrawal notice, and thereby obtained the amount from the Post-Office SavingsBank at Aratapu. Is supposed to have gone to Auckland.

Auckland. Jessie Rattray, servant to Charles Jones, Shelly Beach Road, reports that about 10.15 p.m. on tiie 12th instant she was assaulted by a man, name unknown, who attempted to commit rape on her. Offender is described as between twenty-five and thirty years of age, about sft. lOin. high, thin build, dark bushy hair, dark moustache only, prominent white teeth, long soft hands, apparently well educated; wore a dark suit, light-coloured tweed cap, and white shirt showing the cuffs. Complainant thinks she could identify him. No warrant.

Woodville. —Christopher Hoodums is charged on warrant with having, on the 16th ultimo, stolen 165., money of Francis Buckingham, of Mangatainoko. Description : English, a labourer, twenty-two years of age, 6ft. high, medium build, fair or light-brown hair, fair complexion, blue eyes, thin sharp features, slight fair moustache and sideboards, smart active appearance; generally wears a grey-tweed suit, grey-plaid overcoat, and soft brown hat with small brim. Offender received the money from the Secretary of the Mangatainoko School Committee for and on account of complainant and cleared out with it.

Wellington. —James Willoughby Wilson is charged on warrant with fraud on William George Jones, labourer, on the 28th or 29th June last. Offender is English, a coachbuilder and cab-driver, forty-five years of age, sft. sin. high, slight build, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache ; dressed, when last seen, in a dark sac-suit and hard black-

felt hat. (See Police Gazette, 1894, page 152.) He obtained board and lodging to the value of £2 Ib. 4d. by presenting deeds of property, which he falsely stated to be his own.

Christchurch. —Richard Kobelt is charged on warrant with the theft, between the 28th April and 28th September, 1895, of various sums, amounting to £35, moneys of the Malvern Road Board. Description: English, a clerk, forty years of age, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair whiskers beard and moustache cut short; dressed, when last seen in a dark tweed sac-suit, and hard black-felt hat. He was clerk to the Board, and received the moneys, but failed to account for them.

Christchurch.— Charles E. Edwards, charged with embezzling moneys of William Breckon, has been arrested by Constable W. J. Simpson, Eltham police, on the information of Chief-Detective A. Henderson, of Christchurch. Remanded to latter city, and sentenced to six months’ labour on each of two charges (concurrent).

Dunedin. —Amy Bock, alias Laing, alias Bennett, &c., charged with false pretences on Louisa Greig, has been arrested by Constable E. P. Bird, Waikouaiti police, and sentenced to three months’ labour.

Dunedin. —John Philip Piercy is charged on warrant with the theft of £ls, money of Thomas Kay Sidey, farmer, Caversham, on the 16th ultimo. Description : English, an hotelkeeper, forty-five years of age, about sft. llin. high, medium build, smart upright appearance, black hair turning grey, black moustache and small side-whiskers (may now be clean shaved), sallow complexion; wears spectacles, very polite gentlemanly appearance, generally wears a dark pagetsuit and hard black hat. He is licensee of the Grand Hotel, which belongs to complainant, and as such received the money, and appropriated it to his own use. Will no doubt endeavour to leave the colony.

Dunedin. —Frederick Thomas Horne is charged on warrant with having, on the 14th August, 1895, embezzled £IOO, money of the Dunedin Finance, Loan, and Agency Company (Limiud). Description : English or Colonial, about thirtyfour years of age, rather stout, square build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, and short heavy dark moustache only; respectable appearance ; generally wears a dark-tweed sac-suit and hard black hat. Offender, who was employed as clerk to the company, received the above amount, and converted it to his own use. His defalcations amount to over £I,OOO. He was also secretary to the St. Clair Trotting Club, and is pretty well known to racing men. His wife and child reside at Caversham, and he will no doubt endeavour to leave the colony. Arrest important.
