(See Police Gazette, 1895, page 80.) Auckland. —David Stirling, charged with stealing four £1 notes from George Nicol, has been arrested by Sergeant P. Black at Waikoukou, Helensville. Accused was discharged by the Auckland Bench, complainant having left the colony.

Pungarehu. —Thomas Harman, flax-cutter, Cape Egmont, reports stolen from his tent, on the 10th instant, a cheque for £4, drawn by Rutherford and Son on the Bank of New South Wales, New Plymouth, No. 340926, payable to W. Woods ; five £1 notes, a dark-tweed coat, cotton shirt, under flannel ditto, a silver watch-chain with key and small kettle attached, and a black-leather pocket-book with “T. Har man” written inside : value, £ll 10s.

Eltham. —Patrick Quirk reports stolen from his tent, at Ngaire Swamp, on the 26th ultimo, an open-faced silver lever watch, much worn, maker and number unknown, value £3; and one pound of Derby tobacco, value ss. 6d.

Waitotara. —William Warsop, jun., labourer, Nukumara, reports stolen from his bedroom, between the 28th ultimo and the 2nd instant, a white-metal stop-watch, small piece out of the dial, WW scratched on inside of case ; a steel guard attached: value, £l. Suspicion attached to John Marshall, colonial, a labourer, nineteen years of age, no hair on face, about sft. Gin. high, slight build, fair hair and complexion, sharp features. He left for Wanganui on the 29th ultimo.

Wellington. —Mary Charlton, bookseller, Tory Street, reports stolen from her in the Skating Rink, on the 18th instant, a dark-brown leather clasp-purse, 4in. or Sin. long, containing four £1 notes, four sovereigns, a leather sovereignpurse, and a receipt for money paid to James Hardie.

Petone (Wellington). —Walter Walsh reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 16th instant, a gold pin with man’s head (showing beard) and white carnelian stone ; value, £1 15s.

Christchurch. —Frederick Thomas, labourer, Ashburton, reports stolen from the Herrick Home, Christchurch, between the 29th ultimo and Ist instant, a horse-rug swag (brown and yellow stripes), secured by two leather straps, and containing a double-breasted dark-tweed coat, pair of light-tweed trousers, coloured cotton shirt, merino singlet, pair of merino drawers, two white sheets, a calico bag containing two Bengal razors (marked “ Barnes ”), strop, lathering-brush, mirror, and hair-brush; a small bag, containing needles, thread, and buttons; a white-silk handkerchief, a pair of elastic-side boots, size 7, much worn, and two pairs of socks: value, £6.

Lincoln. —Frederick William Compton, Norwood, reports that on the 6th instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen: A brown-tweed sac coat and vest, a pair of grey-striped saddle-tweed trousers, not much worn ; hair-brush and comb, small square looking-glass ; and an open faced silver lever watch, supposed French make, “ F.W.C.” marked on case: value, £2 6s,

Dunedin. —Edward Marreyett, farmer, North-east Harbour, reports stolen from his bedroom, between the 9th ultimo and 2nd instant, a gold treble ring, set with twenty-two pearls, three rubies, and two diamonds; two gold necklet-chains, and a silver brooch : value, £8 10s.

Dunedin. —William Townly, farmer, Peninsula, reports stolen from his dwelling, between the 11th and 17th instant, a brown-leather purse, containing one £5 and one £1 note, and £1 in silver.

Marton. —Thomas Cunningham, traveller, Dunedin, reports stolen from the White Hart Hotel, Marton, on the 17th instant, a black-cloth coat, comes down to knees, back of collar greasy, with breast- and side-pockets; had a Railway Guide in one pocket: value, £4.

Christchurch. —Alfred Manhire, bootmaker, Addington, reports that on the 19th or 20th instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : Twelve pairs of men’s assorted boots sizes 7 to 9 ; eight pairs of children’s lace-up boots sizes 7 to 13 ; and two pairs of women’s lace-up boots, size 5 ; value, £lO 14s.
