Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

Wellington. —Albert Victor Edwards is charged on warrant with having, at Upper Hutt, on the 25th ultimo, stolen a mare, saddle, and bridle, value £7 155., the property of Joseph Arthur Haines, labourer, of Martinborough. Offender is English, about thirty years of age, about sft. Tin. high, medium build, dark complexion, clean shaved except dark-brown moustache, small scar the size of a pock-mark on one cheek, Roman nose; dressed in a dark sac-suit, well worn, and soft brown-felt hat; may have on a pair of brown-duck leggings.

Wanganui. —Robert Ross, Rutland stables, reports stolen from a paddock at Putiki, between the 24th of May and the 6th ultimo, a light-bay mare, three years old, about 15J hands high, hind feet white, small star on forehead, slight streak on nose, light build, value £l2 ; and a dark-bay mare, about 15 hands high, five years old, small white star on forehead, thick set, no brands ; value, £2O. Both animals are well bred and broken to harness.

Opotiki. —Stealing Thomas Dawson’s horse : William McCarthy, a half-caste, has been sentenced at the Supreme Court, Auckland, to twelve months’ labour for this offence. Horse recovered by the Port Awanui police.
