Reiuards. Wellington. —Sergeant J. O’Malley, No. 26, has been awarded £2; and Constables A. Hammond, No. 706, and T. H. Quinn, No. 704, £1 10s. each, for services in obtaining the conviction of H. Cunningham and E. Mclntosh for sly grog-selling at Miramar Racecourse. (95/660.) The Customs Department has awarded £ls to Constable T. R. W. Philpotts, No. 501, Reefton police, and £5 to Constable A. Bennett, No. 386, Hokitika, for services rendered in the seizure of an illicit still near Reefton, on the 18th June, 1894. (94/837.) Constable H. Eastgate, No. 660, Auckland police, has been awarded £3 for arresting a straggler from H.M.S. “ Karrakatta.” (95/625.) Constable P. F. Cablyon, Auckland police, has been awarded £8 for arresting a deserter from H.M.S. “Pylades.” (95/644.) Constable W. Sefton, No. 299, Whangaroa police, has been awarded £5 for obtaining two convictions against Rees Nicholson for sly grog-selling at Kaeo. (95/678.)

“ Education Department, Wellington, 25th April, 1895. “ (Circular memorandum.) “The Ministers of the several departments concerned have authorised me to remind Clerks of Courts and members of the Police Force of the importance of accuracy in recording the names and age 3 of children sent to industrial schools. A circular on this subject was issued from this office in September, 1883. “To illustrate the necessity for the writing of this memorandum, I may mention that recently, in the course of a few days, the following errors came to light: Names— Collett, for Kolet; Killcolly, for Kilkolly ; McGinaty, for McGinity ; Maud Robbins, for Florence Maud Robin. Ages —l4 years 8 months, for 15 years 5 months; 11 years 6 months, for 12 years 5 months; 10 years, for 9 years 6 months. “ Wm. Jas. Habens, Secretary.”
