IN exercise of the powers vested in mo by “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and “The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1881,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that Native game, excepting tui, huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed within the Buller District, consisting of the County of Buller, from the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety five, both inclusive (subject, nevertheless, to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned); and I do further notify that licenses to sell Native game shall bo issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each; and the Chief Postmaster at Westport is hereby appointed to issue the said licenses. As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, for and on behalf of His Excellency the Governor, and as his duly-appointed Deputv, this fourteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five. Arrowtown Police Gaol ceased to be a Police Gaol. GLASGOW, Governor. By his Deputy, (1.5.) JAMES PRENDERGAST. A PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “ The Prisons Act, 1882,” it is enacted that the Governor may, by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette , declare that any prison or police gaol shall no longer be a prison or police gaol ; and upon the gazetting of such Proclamation, or from and after any later date fixed in such Proclamation for the purpose, such prison or police gaol shall cease to be a prison or police gaol:

Prohibiting the Exportation of Firearms, dc., from New Zealand to Samoa. GLASGOW, Governor. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-sixth day of February, 1895. Present: His Excellency the Governor in Council. WHEREAS by “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1852,” it is amongst other things enacted that any goods whatever may, hy Proclamation or Order in Council, revocable from time to time, be prohibited to be exported ; and if any goods shall be exported from the colony contrary to any such prohibition, or be waterborne to be so exported or carried, they shall be forfeited, and any person offending against the provisions of such Proclamation or Order shall for every such offence forfeit and pay the sum of five hundred pounds: And whereas it is advisable to prohibit the exportation of firearms, gunpowder, munitions of war, and warlike stores to the Samoa or Navigators Islands except as hereinafter provided : Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the said Act, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth by this present Order absolutely prohibit the exportation from New Zealand to the Samoa or Navigators Islands of all firearms, gunpowder, munitions of war, and warlike stores: Provided that this prohibition shall not extend or apply to any firearms, gunpowder, munitions of war, or warlike stores exported by or on behalf of, and consigned to, the Samoan Government. And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum of ten shillings each, and that licenses to sell game and native game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each ; and the Chief Postmaster at Napier, and the Postmasters at Waipawa, Woodville, Wairoa, Danevirke, Hastings, Mohaka, Waipukurau, Norsewood, Ormondville, Porangahau, and Wimbledon are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses. And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell game and native game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each ; and the Chief Postmasters at Auckland and Thames are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses. And I do further notify that licenses to sell native game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each; and the Postmaster at Temuka is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses. And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell game and native game shall he issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each ; and the Postmasters at Tauranga and Rotorua are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses.

Regulations for Deer-shooting, Otago.

GLASGOW, Governor,

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by “ The Animals Protection Act, 1S80,” and “The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1881,” His Excellency the Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, doth hereby notify that deer (bucks or stags only) may be shot and killed within the boundaries of the Otago Acclimatisation Society’s district, subject to the following regulations and restrictions, namely:—

Regulations

1. Licenses to shoot and kill deer (bucks or stags only) in the Otago Acclimatisation Society’s district, except within the area hereinafter described, will be issued under the hnnd of the Chief Postmaster at Dunedin, on the recommendation of the Secretary of the Otago Acclimatisation Society. For every such license to kill red deer a fee of £3 sterling will he charged ; and no holder of any such license as aforesaid shall kill more than four stags under or by virtue of such license ; and for every such license to kill fallow deer a fee of £2 sterling will be charged ; and no holder of any such license as aforesaid shall kill more than three bucks under or by virtue of such license.

The said Chief Postmaster is hereby appointed and authorised to issue and sign the said licenses. 2. Every such license shall entitle the person named therein to kill fallow deer (bucks only), as provided in Regulation No. 1, from the 15th March, 1895, to the 30th April, 1895, and red deer (stags only), as ptovided in Regulation No. 1, from the Ist April to the 31st May, 1895. Ball cartridge only to be used.

3. No doe, hind, or fawn will be allowed to be killed on any pretext whatever, and no dogs will be allowed to accompany either the licensee or any attendant he may have with him.

4. The licensee must give notice to the said Chief Postmaster of the date on which it is his intention to stalk deer; such notice to be posted, or delivered, or telegraphed three clear days before such date. 5. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorising any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. G. No deer shall be shot within an area containing about 24,800 acres in one block, being parts of the Mid-Hawea, Longslip, Lower Hawea, and Lindis Districts, plans of which area will be issued by the Secretary of the Otago Acclimatisation Society to persons to whom licenses to shoot deer are granted. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-seventh day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five. P. A. BUCKLEY, Colonial Secretary.
