Auckland. —Philip E. Rhodes is charged on warrant with having, about the 22nd ultimo, embezzled the sum of 10s., money of George Percy and Herbert Dearsley, publishers. Offender is English (Yorkshire accent), a canvassing agent, forty-four years of age, sft. 9in. high, slight medium build, drooping shoulders, fair complexion, fair hair and moustache, one upper front tooth out, talks loud, stoops slightly forward when walking; has been a third mate in the Union Steamship Company’s service. He obtained the amount for an advertisement, but failed to account for it, and his further defalcations are believed to amount to about £2O. A bunch of keys has since been received by complainant’s agent, the label being addressed in the offender’s handwriting, and bearing the Sydney postmark.

Auckland. —Mahomed Alii is charged on warrant with having, on the 30th ultimo, obtained from Deeder Bux goods to the value of £l2 19s. 3d. by false pretences. Offender is a Hindoo hawker, twenty-five or twenty-six years of age, 6ft. high, medium build, rather dark complexion, small dark whiskers and moustache; usually wears a long dark coat, light striped trousers, and round skull-cap. Has a brother, Ismael Joe, at New Plymouth, and may have gone there.

Auckland. —Maurice Ickerson is charged on warrant with having had an unlicensed still on his premises in Elliott Street, on the 4th ultimo. Description : A German, sixtythree years of age, sft. 4in. high, stout build, full grey beard ; dressed in grey tweed. Has gone to Sydney.

Napier. —William McDonald is charged on warrant with having, at Awatoto, on the 15th instaut, obtained the sum of £4 17s. 6d. from Edward Ernest Aulsebrook, hotelkeeper, by means of a valueless cheque. Offender is supposed English, about thirty years of age, sft. Sin. or 9in. high, medium build, dark-brown hair, clean-shaved except fair moustache, rather long at ends; dressed in a dark sac coat, light-tweed trousers, no vest, may be wearing a light-grey tweed cap or soft brown-felt hat; no swag ; a shearer and cook. He obtained the above amount and drinks to the value of 2s. 6d. in exchange for his cheque for £5, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Napier, and it has been ascertained that he has no account there. He went south on the following day.

Wellington. — Ward is charged on warrant with having, on the 9th instant, forged and uttered to William Coltman, Cuba Street, a cheque for £B. Supposed English, about thirty-eight years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, moustache (turning grey) only; wore dark clothes and hard black-felt hat. Offender obtained a ladies’ gold Waterbury watch, value £3 10s., and £4 10s. in cash, stating that the cheque was drawn by Mr. Poynton, solicitor ; but it has been declared a forgery.

Kaikoura. —John Reid, charged with having forged and uttered a cheque to John Davidson : This offender is now said to be in the North Island, and may be wearing a pair of dungaree trousers. He talks a good deal of horse-racing, and is no doubt identical with John Reid, who was convicted of obscene language at Palmerston North on the 13th June last. (See Police Gazette, 1894, page 115.)

Christchurch. —Alfred Doble, charged with the theft of 55., money of William Hayes, has been arrested by Constable J. Gantley, Wellington police. Remanded to Christchurch, and discharged.

Dunedin. —John A. Docherty is charged on warrant with the theft, on the Bth ultimo, of £1 Is. Id., money of the Taieri and Peninsula Milk-supply Company, by whom he was employed. Offender is Irish, about twenty-five years of age, about sft. Gin. high, blue eyes, brown hair, small fairish moustache, light build. He collected the amount, but failed to hand it over to the company. Several similarcharges against him are pending.

Dunedin. —John Sidey, Caversham, reports that about the 31st ultimo a bullock was maliciously shot dead. He guarantees a reward of £lO on conviction of the offender.

Invercargill. John Hampton is charged on warrant with the theft, on the sth instant, of a £lO note on the Bank of Australasia, No. 329 or 6288, the property of William Fowler, carpenter. Offender is supposed English, said to be a labourer, about sft. Gin. high, medium build, full face, fresh complexion, nose slightly bent to the right, large blue eyes, dark hair and moustache, slight impediment when speaking quickly; dressed in a blue-serge suit, blue-flannel shirt, and soft brown-felt hat. He obtained possession of the note to take care of it, but afterwards denied having it, and cleared out. Last heard of at Gore.

Tapanui. —Dibb Ido is charged on warrant with false pretences on Frederick Harley, labourer. Conical Hills, on the 20th December, 1894. Offender is an Egyptian, a hawker, about twenty years of age, sft. Gin. high, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes, broad nose, large mouth; flags, 1875, and D.I. tattooed on right arm, and crucifix on left hand. Photographed at Invercargill on 26th May, 1894 (See Police Gazette , 1894, page 129). He obtained the sum of £1 from complainant by falsely representing that he was travelling for a Dunedin tailor, the amount being a deposit on a suit of clothes. His parents are living in Dunedin, but he is supposed to be hawking through the country.
