Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Wellington. —Joseph Smith is charged on warrant with deserting his wife Elizabeth, Martin Street, since tho 21st ultimo. Description : English, a shearer, about forty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair beard and moustache, a cut underneath left eye, and the eyelash drawn down; dressed in a dark-blue coat, dark-check trousers, and soft drab-coloured hat. Supposed to have gone to the South Island.

New Plymouth. —William John Lyle, charged with disobeying an order of the Court for the support of his illegitimate child by Susan Bishell: It is thought that, if this offender is still in the colony, he may take part in athletic sports. Christchurch. — John Laurenson is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court, made on the 2nd ultimo, to pay 2s. a week towards the support of each of his three illegitimate children. Description : Scotch (but looks like a foreigner), about forty years of age, about sft. 9in. high, medium build, dark sallow complexion, clean-shaved except dark moustache, dark hair, thin on crown, dark eyes, speaks with a peculiar accent, addicted to drink. Was employed at tho Government workshops, Addington, as a blacksmith’s striker. His wife lives at 32, Richmond Road, off South Belt, Christchurch.
Dunedin. —George Brown is charged on warrant with having deserted his wife, Mary Ellen, Forbury Road, Caversham, since tho 9th of January, 1893. Description: Scotch, a carpenter or labourer, forty-eight years of age, about sft. Gin. high, stout build, reddish complexion, sandy moustache only, blue eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1893, page 46.)
