Auckland. —William Pilkington Harris is charged on warrant with false pretences on Stewart, Dawson, and Co., jewellers, Queen Street, on the 4th instant. Description : About forty-six years of age, sft. lOin. high, stout build, dark pale complexion, dark moustache turning grey ; wore a greytweed suit, and hard brown-felt hat. Probably identical with William Henry Harris, suspected of breaking into and stealing from the office of Thomas George Lawless, at Gisborne, on the Bth ultimo. (See Police Gazette, 1893, page 200.) He obtained a gold watch, guard, and brooch, value £2l 7s. Gd., for which amount he gave his cheque on the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch; but it has been ascertained that ho had no account there. The watch is described as a ladies’ gold lever hunting, No. 217G13, complainants’ make. It is supposed that he left Onehunga for the South on the above-mentioned date by the s.s. “ Mahinapua,” via New Plymouth, Nelson, and Wellington.

Eketahuna. —John Brown is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, for fourteen days, in default of paying 17s. fine and costs for drunkenness. Description : A Swede, a carpenter or bushman, about forty years of age, sft. lOin. high, strong loose build, very fair hair and complexion, little or no hair on face, heavy feet; dressed in a light-tweed suit, sometimes wears a straw hat; very fond of drink; frequents hotels. Supposed to have gone towards Danevirke.

Wellington. —Edward Tyrrell is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol for four days in default of paying £1 195., fine and costs for cruelty to a horse. Description : Supposed colonial, a labourer and driver, about twenty-six years of age, sft. Gin. or 7m. high, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, round features, clean-shaved except fair moustache ; generally wears a grey suit. Ho was driving a milk-cart for Mr. Garrod Osborne, and left Wellington about the Ist ultimo.

O AMARU. —Robert Ibell is charged on warrant with false pretences on Malcolm McFadgen, Thames Street, on the 16th November, 1893. Description : A native of the colony, a groom and jockey, about fifteen years of age, about sft. 4in. high, slight build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair ; dressed in a dark pepper-and-salt tweed suit (flap pockets outside each breast on coat), and soft black-felt hat. He obtained a suit of clothes by falsely representing that he was employed by Thomas Thompson, of Columella. His parents reside at Ashburton, and he may have gone there or to Timaru.

Dunedin. —Ah Lung is charged on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Gaol, for four days’ labour, in default of paying £1 fine and costs for assaulting his wife. Description : A Chinese hawker, about forty years of age, about sft. 7in. high, medium build, olive complexion, black hair. He left for Wellington, per s.s. “ Wakatipu,” on the 29th November last.
