Missing Friends.
Johanna BERGiNis inquired for by her father through the Greymouth Police. Description : A servant, eighteen years of age, about sft. 2in. high, stout build, fresh complexion, round features, blue eyes, dark hair, slightly lame on left leg; single. She was living with her aunt, Mrs. Delaney, at Twelve Mile, Grey Valley, and left there about eighteen months ago. She was then pregnant.
(See Police Gazette, 1893, page 82.) Robert L. Remington is employed on a bush contract near Papakura Auckland.
Sarah Darkey is inquired for by the Dunedin Police. Description: Irish, a domestic servant, about twenty-two years of age, sft. 7in. high, stout build, fair complexion, dark eyes and hair ; supposed single. She left her lodgings in Frederick Street, Dunedin, about four months ago, and has failed to make payments for the maintenance of her child left with Mrs. Hiscoke, Kensington. It is requested that every endeavour may be made to ascertain her whereabouts, application having been made to have the child committed to the Industrial School.
Miss Griffiths (name supposed to be fictitious) is inquired for by the Dunedin Police, with the view of compelling her to support her illegitimate child, left with Mrs. Kirk, Roslyn, on the 23rd May last. Description: Supposed a factory hand, about twenty-two years of age, about sft. sin. high, medium build, light-brown hair, fair complexion, good-look-ing ; wore a long, dark waterproof jacket, and black straw hat. She gave her address as North Cumberland Street, but cannot be found there, or at any of the Dunedin factories.
George Howard is inquired for by the Blenheim Police, at the instance of his wife. Description : A native of the colony, a cabinetmaker, thirty years of age, sft. lOin. high, fresh complexion, good-looking, slightly knock-kneed and round-shouldered, sandy whiskers and moustache. He left Blenheim on the sth ultimo for Wellington on business connected with his trade, and subsequently wrote from Danevirke, saying he was going to Napier, and would return by steamer to Wellington. He is well known to Sergeants White and Cullen, Wellington and Napier Police.
Joseph Hewson is inquired for through the Milton (Otago) police. Description : Scotch (broad accent), a baker, about forty-five years of age, about sft. sin. high, stout build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair beard whiskers and moustache (worn rather long); single. He left Milton on the 28th January last, taking £2OO with him, and spoke of going South, or to the diggings at Preservation Inlet. Had been drinking heavily before leaving. He is well known in most parts of Southland, and has property at Milton.
John Richard Hefferman is inquired for by Mary Anne Hefferman, 26, Townsville Road, West Kensington, London. He is described as a native of Keatingstown, Kilkenny, fifty-eight years of age, a farmer, single. Was last heard of in 1873, at a Government office, South Albertland (Auckland), but no trace of him can now be obtained in that locality. The Postmaster at Tauhoa thinks that a man of the same name worked on a survey there during the year mentioned. (93/739.)
