Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Woodville. —Charles Dixon is charged on warrant with having, since the 9th February last, disobeyed an order of Court to pay £1 a week towards the support of his wife. He is Scotch, a carpenter, about fifty years of age, about sft. 9in. high, rather stout, fresh ruddy complexion, blue eyes, grey hair beard whiskers and moustache, rather sulky and determined looking, very fond of drink ; dressed in a browntweed suit, and small tweed cap.

Otaki. —John Atkinson is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terraco Gaol, Wellington, for three months’ labour for disobeying an order of Court to pay 15s. a week towards the maintenance of his son. Description : Irish, a labourer, thirty-five years of age, sft. lljin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair moustache and goatee, cheeks shaved, very large grey eyes showing a lot of white ; dressed in dirty moleskin trousers, grey-tweed coat (no vest), and soft black-felt hat; fond of drink. The sum of £23 10s. was due on the 25th January last. He is said to have been seen at Woodville on the 22nd ultimo.

Wellington. —John R. Clarke is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Annis Clarke, Claremont House, Wellington Terrace, since the 4th instant. Description : An American, a commercial traveller, twenty-eight years of age, sft. 7in. high, stout build, dark complexion, clean-shaved except dark moustache, grey eyes, smart appearance ; generally wears a dark-blue-serge sac-suit, and hard black-felt hat. He was travelling in the Wairarapa District, obtaining orders for enlarged photographs, and is said to have collected between £4O and £SO, which he has failed to remit to his employers, Wrigglesworth and Binns, Wellington. Last seen in the latter city on the 2nd instant.

Wellington. —Henry O’Hara is charged on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for two months, for disobeying an order of Court to pay ss. a week towards the support of his father. Description : Colonial, a tailor, twenty-nine years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, fair complexion, dark-brown hair whiskers and moustache, full features, smart active appearance, a musician, fond of dancing, generally

dresses in a black-cloth suit and hard hat. He left Dunsandel for Christchurch by train on the 24th March last, and is supposed to be travelling in the Canterbury District with a patent for protecting horses from the bot-fly. The order was made on the Gth January, 1893, and the sum of £2 was due on the 31st March following.

Wellington. —John Cecil Pascoe, for wife-desertion, has been arrested by Constable J. Gillespie, Foxton Police, and discharged by the Palmerston North Bench, complainant declining to prosecute.

New Plymouth. —Joseph Patterson is charged, on warrant, with deserting his three children since about the 13th ultimo. Desci’iption : English, a labourer, about thirty years of age, sft. Gin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, full round eyes, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache, fond of drink ; wore when last seen a dark-tweed coat and blackfelt hat; dirty appearance; a widower. He left New Plymouth on the above date for Stratford or the South.

Invercargill. —Colin Clarke is charged, on warrant, with having deserted his wife, Catherine, Wright’s Bush, since the 31st December, 1892. Description : Scotch, a shearer and station-hand, fifty years of age, 6ft. high, stout build, black hair tinged with grey, brown whiskers and moustache. He left home on the above date for the purpose of seeking work, and was last heard of about two months ago at Glenoarnaru, Balclutha district.
