Spit (Napier). —James Bennett is charged with having, on the 16th or 17th ultimo, stolen from the cabin of the schooner “ Orpheus ” the following articles, the property of Walter Smith, masterr A navy-blue suit, nearly new; a rug, brown on one side, red stripes on the other; a grey blanket with black stripes, pair of red-striped check trousers, a billy, silver fork, two table-knives, a sheatli-knife, and some tea and sugar; value about £6. Accused, who was cook of the vessel, cleared out, taking the missing articles with him. He is forty-six years of age, about sft. 6in. high, stout build, fresh complexion, sandy moustache only, fair hair, hole on bridge of nose, tattooed on both arms ; dressed in a grey shirt, light-tweed pants, coat, and white hat. No warrant.

Whangarei. —Andrew Wilson rcportsstolon fromliis stable, between the 31st March last and 12tli ultimo, a stock-saddle, colonial make, cowhide flaps, seat pigskin, with cuts about 4in. long round the edges, black spots on knee-pads and pommel, D on the latter is missing and leather loose, germansilver stirrup-irons, one slightly bent; also a single bridle, rein broken in two places and tied with boot-lace, germansilver bit; value £6. Identifiable. Maoris suspected.

Pukearuhe. —The Mokau Coal Company report stolen from their blacksmiths’ shop at Mokau, between the 21st and 31st March last, a vice, pattern B, racket-brace, axe, four hammers, and four tongs ; value £7 ss.

Wellington. —T). Cross reports stolen from the Government Railway-station, on the 19th ultimo, a parcel containing nine pairs of boots, viz., six gentlemen’s kip shooters, pegged and nailed ; one maids’ and one ladies’ kip with steel points; and one boys’ East India kip Balmorals, fancy vamp, nailed and rivetted; value £4 19s. 3d. Identifiable. The parcel was addressed to complainant at Masterton.

Masterton. —Duncan McGregor reports stolen from his buggy, on the 20tb ultimo, a whip with short blue crackercord, cap missing; value 15s. Identifiable.

Masterton. —Robert Campbell, Opalci, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 17th and 19th ultimo, fifteen or sixteen bags of black Tartarian oats ; value £5 12s. Gd. David Heggie has since been summoned for this offence and discharged, the identification of the oats not being satisfactorily established.

South Dunedin. —P. H. Hancock and Co. report stolen from their railway-siding at Kensington, on the 14tli or 15tli ultimo, a tarpaulin, nearly new, 16ft. by 12ft., firm’s name in large black letters on both sides, and JHH on ends ; value £2. May have been taken by rabbiters.

Riverton. —Keith Ramsay, shipping agent, Dunedin, reports stolen from the wharf at the latter port, or at Riverton, between the 29th February and 3rd March last, a chest containing 1021 b. of China tea, wrapped in matting, and marked Y. Couchan,” and SS over RH ; value £8 Is. Gd.
