Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Auckland.— Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from the dwelling of John Gleeson, Jermvn Street, a black-leather gladstonebag, containing a pink-pi int horseshoe-pattem shirt, a white ditto with coloured front and cuffs and black-and-white bars,

three white indian-silk pocket-handkerchiefs, three pairs of merino socks, a merino singlet, and three white collars ; value £2 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —Between 12 noon on the 21st and 9 a.m. on the 23rd ultimo the public school at Parnell was broken into, and twenty-nine keys, various descriptions, and a rollertowel stolen ; value £1 10s.; the property of the Parnell School Committee.

Warkwobth. —Stolen between the 14th October last and the 14th ultimo, from a whare at Puhoi, a bag of scraped kauri-gum, and a bag and a half of unscraped ditto ; some pieces of the former can be identified ; value £8; the property of Hohepa and J. Brown.

Te Aroha. —Stolen between the 15th and 17th ultimo, from a tent at Tatua-o-Haua, a new black-diagonal-serge suit (sac-coat), size about 6 ; value £5 ; the property of A. E. Buckingham, now residing at Murray’s, near Helensville. Identification doubtful. Suspicion attached to Bawiri, a Maori, about sft. 4in. high, wiry build, very little hair on face, criminal-looking, and Chinese type of countenance ; speaks English. Still in the district.

Marton. —Stolen at about 9.30 p.m. on the 28tli ultimo, from the bar-room of the White Hart Hotel, a brown-paper parcel tied with string, containing two plain white-flannel cricketing shirts with long-pointed collars, a blue necktie, a pair of grey-merino pants and undershirt; value £1 18s.; the property of Michael Finn, labourer, Bonnie Glen. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Michael Foley, now working for Mr. Simpson, of Porewa, and described at page 156, of Police Gazette , 1890.

Pahiatua. —Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from a whare at Makakahi, five £1 Bank of New Zealand notes, a halfsovereign, two florins, and a white-metal watch-chain, small curb-links, key on the last one, and bar missing ; value 35.; the property of Laurence Malmanche. Chain identifiable.

Wellington. —Stolen at 10.15 p.m. on the Ist instant, from the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, at the corner of Arthur and Cuba Streets, a peacock-blue hand-bag, fastens with a clasp, containing a purse in which was 9s. 9d. in silver and coppers, by a man, name unknown, about twenty-five years of age, medium height and build, swarthy appearance, very round shoulders; dressed in dark clothes and soft hat. Offender, whose identification is doubtful, snatched the bag out of her hand, and ran off with it. Bag and purse identifiable. Complainant’s address is Broadway Terrace.

Wellington. —Stolen between 4.30 and 6 p.m. on the Ist instant, from a cage in the Star Hotel, a black-and-white magpie, right wing cut, tail white with black tip ; value £5 ; the property of John Kihan. Identifiable.

Dunne, from Coldwater’s pawn-office, Victoria Street, Auckland. They were sold on the 18th August last by a man, about twenty-eight years of age, sft. Sin. high ; dressed in tweed clothes ; said he came from Whangarei.

Dunedin. —Stolen at 7.10 p.m. on the 27th ultimo, from the person of Mrs. Mary Smail, at the Dunedin Railwaystation, a small leather purse, containing a£l note; purse identifiable. Complainant resides at Clair Cottage, Leith Street.

Waikaia. —Stolen on the 22nd or 23rd ultimo, from the dwelling of John Russell, rabbiter, Wendon, a new brownleather pocketbook, fastens with an elastic band, containing a £5 note, supposed on Colonial Bank, and twenty-two £1 notes, bank and numbers unknown.

Charleston. —Between 10 p.m. on the 27th and 1.15 a.m. on the 28th ultimo the premises of the Bank of New South Wales were broken into and ransacked, an attempt made to remove the safe, and a five-chambered Tranter revolver, about 12in. long, one barrel loaded, rusty, and revolvingaction defective owing to one of the triggers having been broken, stolen.

Martinborough. Stolen between the 17th and 25th ultimo, from the dwelling of Thomas D. Wardlaw, schoolmaster, a pair of gentlemen’s plain gold solitaires, little larger than a sixpence, bottom parts crescent-shaped, and a large brass-handled pocketknife with two blades, corkscrew, and hook. Suspicion attached to Annie Readdie, a domestic servant, about twenty-two years of age, sft. 3in. or 4in. high, fair complexion and hair : dressed in shabby dark navy-blue

dress, black-and-grey-striped ulster, and,sailor-hat trimmed with yellow ribbon. Left on the latter date for Wellington, where her friends are said to be known to Mrs. Fox, of 131, Cuba Street. *

No further proceedings will be taken against the above-named offender.

Auckland. —Stolen on the 21st ultimo, from outside the shop of George Fowlds, draper, Victoria Avenue, a pair of youths’ dark-check-tweed trousers with blue thread, size 13, value 11s.; also, on the 28th ultimo, a pair of youths trousers and vest, pepper-and-salt tweed, size 1, value 9s.

Kurow. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the men’s kitchen at the Kurow Station, a silver lever hunting-watch, makers Stewart, Dawson, and Co., No. 103908; value £3 155.; the property of Alexander Durward.

Ophir. —Between the middle of August last and 3rd instant the Ophir Quartz-mining Company’s battery-room was broken into, and 801 b. quicksilver containing 2oz. or 3oz. of gold, value £l2, stolen. Suspicion attached to Henry' Cecil and Francis Raper. The former is English, a miner, about twenty-six years of age, light-brown hair, fair complexion, large teeth, grey eyes, high cheek-bones, small fair moustache only, repulsive iooking. (See also Police Gazette, 1891, page 70.) He left about the 12th October last, in company with a Airs. Ekberg, for Zeelian, Tasmania. Raper is a general labourer, residing at Clyde.

Ormond (Poverty Bay). —Stolen on the Ist instant, from a tent at Wliatatutu, a cheque for £6 4s. on the Union Bank of Australia, drawn by G. W. Tiffen in favour of John Kellar, and 10s. in silver; the property of Henry Kershaw. Suspicion attached to Rulca Tereto, a Maori, about thirty years of age, about sft. Sin. high, black hair whiskers and moustache, stout build, very deaf ; residing at Pakovvahi.
