Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

(See Police Gazette , 1891, pages 12 and 27.) Alfred Haigman, alias Alfred Thompson, charged with stealing a dictionary from the Dunedin Athenaeum, has been arrested by Constable William Hilliard, Fairlie Creek Police, and remanded to Dunedin.

Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from the garden of Miss Emily Johnston, Fitzherbert Terrace, Wellington, about twenty-six bunches of grapes; value £2. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who sold some bunches to Wong Lee, a Chinese dealer on Thorndon Quay, and from the appearance of the stalks they were no doubt a portion of the stolen fruit. He is supposed a colonial, eighteen to twenty years of age, sft. 7in. or Sin. high, fair complexion and hair; wore a light-tweed suit and light soft stitched hat. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 31st December last and 2nd ultimo, from the Museum, Princes Street, Auckland, three unpolished diamonds, about the size of small peas, value £1 10s ; also between the 13th and 16th ultimo ten samples of alluvial gold, three pieces of very rich gold quartz about lin. diameter, two stones of auriferous gold about 2in. diameter, and a small sample of fine leaf-gold, value £lO ; the property of the Museum Trust Board.

Stolen between the 21st and 24th ultimo, from the wharf, Waitara, Taranaki District, six Baltic pine-boards, Oft. x 9in. x lin.; value 55.; the property of George Box, Masonic Hotel. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Frederick Brabent, a carpenter, residing at Waitara.

(See Police Gazette, 1891, page 37.) j/ Albert Beckett’s saddle has been found in a paddock on the Wairoa-Gisborne Road, about three miles from where it was stolen ; bridle still missing. The spieler “ Paddy ” is still suspected, as he no doubt left the saddle where found.

Stolen on the 26tli or 27th ultimo, from a paddock at Brockville, Roslyn, near Dunedin, two sheets for drying wool, each 10yds. by syds., made of new scrim, sewn in the centre and hemmed with white thread ; value 9s. each ; the property of John McNaught. Identifiable.

Stolen on the Ist or 2nd instant, from a sty at Greytown North, a black sow, about 2501 b. weight, heavy in young ; value £2; the property of Paroni Pahoro. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to William Mead, farmer, and Robert Stirling, spieler, both living in the locality.

Stolen on the Ist instant, from the stable of the Globe Hotel, Princes Street South, Dunedin, a double - reined snaffle-bridle, reins stitched to bit, the rings of which are slightly bent, white forehead - band with red and white rosettes, centre button and part of leather broken off one of them; value £2; the property of Edward McNulty. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to John Evans and another young man, who put their horses in the stable, and are

employed in the Roslyn Woollen Factory. Evans is a colonial, about twenty-seven years of age, sft. 6in. high, dark hair, dark moustache, and small side-whiskers, tender eyes, wears earrings. No description is given of the other.

Stolen between the 12th and 14th ultimo, from the Centre Bush siding, Invercargill-Lumsden Railway, a bale of binder-twine, weight 661 b.; value £2 2s. 7d.; the property of Charles Stewart, South Hillend.
