Alfred Haigmann, alias Alfred Thompson, is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with having, on or about the 13th ultimo, stolen from the Athemeum, Dunedin, a Webster’s English Dictionary ; value £1; since recovered. Description : English, about twenty years of age, sft. 3in. or 4in. high, slight build, dark complexion, black hair, little if any on face, dark eyes, Jewish appearance, respectable looking. Offender sold the book on the above date to a dealer in Princes Street. He may be employed at some country hotel, perhaps as billiard-marker.. There are other similar charges pending against him. /9/y

Stolen between the 30th November last and 23rd ultimo, from a flax-mill engine in Custom Street, Auckland, thirty cast-iron fire-bars, a brass steam-guage, a brass water-guage, two brass cylinder oil-cups, and four brass steam-taps; value £2O; the property of James Cooper Cairns, of Sarsfield Street, Ponsonby.

Stolen on the 28th ultimo, at about 1 p.m., from a trap in the yard of Mr. Rose, Manners Street, Wellington, a large rug, large-spot pattern in red, grey, and blue colours, also a large red shawl, both worn; value £1 165.; the property of Frederick Anderson, Upper Hutt. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from a shed at Kandallah, near Wellington, during a picnic, a red cloak with blackvelvet collar, a brown cloak with red-velvet collar, and a black-fur cape, large girls’ size ; value £1 55.; the property of Mrs. Carte, Broadway Terrace, Wellington. Identifiable.

Stolen between 3 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. on the 27th instant, from an open safe in the Taranaki County Council Chamber, New Plymouth, twenty £1 notes, bank and numbers unknown, and a sovereign; the property of James Brown Lawson, County Clerk, and stolen during his absence for about twenty minutes. Suspicion attached to William Barnard, who was in the chamber shortly before the theft. Description: English, a butcher, about forty years of age, about sft. Bin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown beard whiskers and moustache ; keeps race-horses, fond of drink ; resides in New Plymouth.

Stolen on the 27th instant, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., from a stable at Gowrie Farm, near Outram, Dunedin District, during a sale, a bridle, bit, and roller for a draught entire ; bridle made of patent blue-leatlier with large silver buckles and mountings; straight steel bit with steel chain and about 6ft. of cotton rope attached ; roller of blue-and-white-striped web, side- and bearing-rein attached, with silver buckles and mountings; value £4; the property of Peter Grant. Identifiable.

Stolen between 6 p.m. on the 10th and 9 a.m. on the 12th instant, from a dray at Pungarehu, Taranaki District, three bullock-chains, marked on hooks with three small dots, thus. 1 .; value £1 Bs. 6d.; the property of Thomas Julian, Warea. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 30th or 31st ultimo, from a shed in the yard of William Stronach, Grange Street, Dunedin, a blueprint dress with black spots, and a grey-cashmere dress, sizes for a girl of thirteen years, a pair of ladies’ brownwoollen stockings, and a kit of potatoes ; value 10s. Dresses much worn, and supposed identifiable.

Stolen on the 17th or 18th ultimo, from a clothes-line in the yard of Fanny Ilartness, Nelson Street, Auckland, a women’s skirt, and a girls’ dress, both buff coloured, a boys’ white-linen coat, and a white table-cloth; value 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 31st ultimo or Ist instant, from the Victoria Wharf, Devonport, Auckland, a cutter’s dingy (since recovered), two Bft. oars, and two rowlocks ; value in all £2; the property of David Shaw r . Identifiable. The boat was afterwards found at Mechanics’ Bay, but the oars and rowlocks are still missing.

Ah Kin and another Chinaman, name unknown, are charged on warrant with having, on the 14th ultimo, at Tunnel Terrace, Goldsborough, Westland District, stolen a quantity of wasli-dirt containing gold to the value of about £6 ; the property of Samuel Anericli and John Balovic. Ah Kin, who is believed to be still in the district, is about thirty-five years of age, about sft. Sin. high, upper frontteeth gone. No description can be given of the second offender.

Stolen on the 3rd or 4th instant, from a clothes-line at Masterton, a large white bed-quilt, two large white bathtowels, one marked “Eton” in ink, a large coloured towel, and a pair of dark-tweed trousers with green stripes ; value £1 ; the property of Henry E. Eton. Identifiable.
