E. C. Walton is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with false pretences on George Fowlds, clothier and draper, Queen Street, Auckland, on the 29th ultimo. Description : Supposed English, a tradesman or storekeeper, thirty-five to forty years of age, sft. Gin. or 7in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache ; wore dark clothes ; can be identified. Offender purchased clothing to the value of about £1 165., tendered a cheque for £0 10s. on the Bank of Australasia, purporting to be drawn by J. McGee in favour of Benjamin Akwirthy, which he indorsed “E. C. Walton,” and received about £4 14s. in change. The cheque was dishonoured on presenting it for payment.

A man who gave the name of Joseph Bartlett, which is probably fictitious, is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with having, on the 30th December last, obtained from Joseph Fitzsimons, shopkeeper, Queen Street, Auckland, two shirts and two collars, value 15s. 6d., by falsely representing that he was the son of Mr. Bartlett, a wellknown resident of Onehunga. Description : Supposed English, about twenty-one years of age, about sft. 9in. or lOin. high, no hair on face, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in light-mixture-tweed suit and soft brown-felt hat.

A man, name unknown, but who can be identified, is charged with having, at about 3.30 p.m. on the 24th ultimo, on the Town Belt, Dunedin, wilfully exposed his person to Mary Glenn. Description : About twenty years of age, about sft. 4in. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, no hair on face ; dressed in dark-brown-tweed sacsuit, black band round sleeve of coat, soft black-felt hat.

Sin. high, rather stout build, lightish-brown hair, fresh complexion, no hair on face ; dressed in brown-tweed sacsuit, dark-tweed vest, brown-moleskin trousers, white softfelt hat, and strong lace-up boots. Last seen on the 26th ultimo at Epsom, going on foot to Onehunga. Offender was employed by complainant to deliver milk and collect money, and received the above amount from a customer, appropriating it to his own use. His defalcations amount to about £8

George Alexander, a railway-servant at Studholme, Oamaru District, reports that on the 3rd ultimo, when at the Orari Hotel, Orari, he gave William McKay, who was

acting as barman, a £5 Bank of New Zealand note, No. 247279, in mistake for a £1 note, receiving change for the latter amount, less cost of three drinks. The following morning McKay denied all knowledge of the matter. He is described as a native of the colony, twenty-three years of age, sft. 6in. or 7in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache ; dressed in light-tweed suit and hard black or brown hat; horsey appearance, attends races, &c. Resides at Orari.
