Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Stolen between the 4tli and 16th ultimo, from an unoccupied house in Cook Street, Auckland, a green venetianblind; value £1; the property of William Bartley Montgomery. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 17th ultimo, from the drapery-shop of Alfred Shalders, Queen Street, Auckland, a ladies’ creamcoloured liberty-silk blouse ; value 18s. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from the person of Frank Bassett, while drunk on the Fedding racecourse, a silver Waltham lever watch, No. 2892831, about ten months in use ; value £4 10s. Identifiable.

Between 12 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the 26th ultimo the dwelling of Frederick Hammond, farmer, near Bull’s, Taranaki District, was broken into, and the following stolen: A tweed suit, a pair of black trousers and a vest, both having a piece of serge let in at the back to enlarge them, two

woollen and two oxford shirts with collars on each, a pair of light-tweed trousers with braces attached, a pair of white blankets, a black-felt hat, and a small bee-clock ; value £7 10s. Identifiable except blankets and hat.

Stolen between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on the 4th instant, from the dwelling of Kate Youmans, Ingestre Street, Wellington, a ladies’ open-faced silver Geneva watch with long silver chain and silver locket attached, locket engraved “K. Youmans ; ” also a broad - pattern silver bracelet ; total value £5. Identifiable.

Stolen between the Ist and 4tli instant, from Frank Moeller’s Occidental Hotel, Wellington, 30ft. of l£in. indiarubber hose with brass nozzle attached ; value £1 ss. Supposed identifiable.

VII., an East Indian rupee, a silver coin inscribed “ Schilling Hambourg Current,” and about two dozen copper and ten silver foreign coins which cannot be described ; value £3 10s. Suspicion attached to Julias Goldstrucker, now undergoing six months’ imprisonment in Mount Eden Gaol for larceny as a bailee of other property belonging to complainant, who left him in charge of his premises. Supposed stolen between 1 and 2 a.m. on the 27th ultimo, from the person of Charles McHugh, while drunk, at Auckland, a silver hunting lever watch, makers Stewart, Dawson, and Co., No. 50360, an 18-carat gold albert - guard, curb pattern, with gold bar, attached, and a small round gold locket; value £lO. Identifiable. Complainant resides at Eglinton Street, Parnell.

Between 6 a.m. on the 18th and 8 a.m. on the ultimo the store of Noah Roper Cox, Hamilton West) Waikato, was broken into, and the following stolen : A cashbox containing £ll 2s. 3d. in silver, two pennies, eighteen twopenny stamps, a duplicate bank-book (Bank of New Zealand), a pass-book with weekly returns recorded, a petty-cash-book, and an old promissory note for £25, from Vincent to Hinton, indorsed by complainant. Two shillings, one of them black, the other bent, a crown-piece slightly notched at edges, the cash-box, and books can be identified.

Stolen on the Ist instant, from the Royal Hotel, Timaru, a white waterproof - overcoat, about 50in. long, with cape attached, striped-bone buttons, bottom one off, three outside pockets, nearly new ; value £2 7s. 6d.; the property of John Davidson. Identifiable.

Between 8 p.m. on the 20th and 7 p.m. on the 21st ultimo the office of the Mutual Life Association, 160, Hereford Street, Christchurch, was broken into, but nothing stolen. Entrance gained by breaking a pane of glass in a back window.

Between 8 p.m. on the 20th and 9 a.m on the 22nd ultimo the office of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, 162, Hereford Street, Christchurch, was broken into, and about Is. 6d. in silver and coppers stolen. An attempt was also made to break into the strong-room. Stolen between the 9th and 23rd ultimo, from a bedroom in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Lyell, Westland District, a brown-sealskin jacket, trimmed with brown fur, fastened in front with mantle-hooks, one pocket inside ; value £8 ; the property of Annie Jorgensen, servant. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Ellen Williams, whose house was searched, under warrant, without effect. Description: English, an hotelkeeper, fifty years of age, about sft. sin. high, dark eyes, dark-brown hair turning grey, dark complexion, medium build. Still at Lyell.
