Miscellaneous Information.
Rewards. The sum of £2 Bs. 6d. has been awarded by the Customs Department to Constable Hugh Chisholm, Port Chalmers Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the prosecution of two of the crew of the steamer “ Rimutaka,” convicted for smuggling tobacco and Florida water.
The sum of £8 has been awarded to Sergeant John Briggs, Christchurch Police, for the arrest of Edward A. Kinnings, a deserter from Her Majesty’s ship “ Lizard.”
The sum of £2 has been awarded to Constable Luke McDonnell, Auckland Police, for the arrest of two stragglers from Her Majesty’s ship “Orlando.”
The sum of £1 has been awarded to Constable Thomas O’Brien, Auckland Police, for the arrest of a straggler from Her Majesty’s ship “Opal.”
A record of merit has been noted in favour of Constable John Watt, Westport Police, in recognition of the praiseworthy perseverance shown by him in the recovery of £9 stolen by Loo Chong, sentenced to six months’ labour at the late sittings of the District Court, Westport.
