Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

The warrant issued by the Masterton Bench for the arrest of Alfred Lovejoy for stealing a gun from the whare of William Mulroy, at Taueru, has been cancelled.

Stolen between 9 and 10 p.m. on the 15tli ultimo, from the dwelling of Sing Lee, Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, a coppercoloured tin box about 2ft. long by Ift. Gin. wide and deep, in which was a. small cash-box containing a £2O note on the Bank of New Zealand, a £2O note on the Bank of New South Wales, a £lO note on the Bank of New Zealand, two £lO notes on the Bank of New South Wales, eighteen £1 notes, four sovereigns, ten half-sovereigns, about £2 in silver, a cheque for £6 on the Bank of New South Wales, Hastings, drawn by W. G. Bennett in favour of Ah Fung; a gentleman’s piain gold ring, value £2 10s.; a gold chain, twisted pattern, value £6 10s. ; a pair of black-cloth trousers, value 95.; four coloured Chinese handkerchiefs, value 10s.; a cardinal silk sash Bft. long, value Bs.; a white Turkish towel, value 35.; a tin of opium, value £1 125.; and a receipt for a horse, signed by Mary Sanders and T. Kemp. Ring and chain identifiable. Suspicion attached to Ah Fung, a China-

man, about thirty years of age, sft. sin. high, medium build, clean-shaved except small black moustache, wears a pigtail; dressed in black-alpaca coat, dark-tweed trousers, soft blackfelt hat, and sandal shoes. He was the only person who left the house from the time the box was last seen until it was missed.

Stolen on the 14th November last, from the sliop-door of Andrew Heavy, Wyndham Street, Auckland, a grey-flannel shirt, a buttonhole on breast slightly torn ; value 4s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the 30th November last, from the Commercial Hotel, High Street, Auckland, a very short light-brown cloth overcoat, a breast- and two hip-pockets, “ R. Lawson ” on tab ; the property of Robert Lawson ; value £2 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 28th or> 29th November last, from the dwelling of Charles Kempthorne Roskrudge, Avenue Roadi Parnell, Auckland, a pair of medium-sized binocular glasses of a very good description, rather old and worn, the focusscrew is weak and much worn ; value £2. Identifiable.

Between 9 p.m. on the 11th and 6 a.m. on the 12th ultimo the dwelling of John C. Mathieson, Franklin Road, Ponsonby, Auckland, was burglariously entered. At 5.45 a.m. on the 12th a man, name unknown, was found in the house, but he escaped through the drawing-room window. A bag containing two work-boxes, two woollen mats, &c., was found in the drawing-room ready for removal. The offender is described as about thirty years of age, about sft. sin. high, stout build, round pale face, no hair on face except light moustache ; dressed in light-tweed sac-suit, light-felt hat, and goloshes.

At 10 p.m. on the Bth ultimo a man, name unknownj burglariously entered the dwelling of Robert Wade Brown, corner of Nelson and Victoria Streets, Auckland. He climbed on to the verandah, raised one of the windows, and entered the house, but being disturbed he left soon after without taking any property with him. He is believed to be identical with a man of the following description, who was loitering about the house in a suspicious manner about two hours previously: About forty years of age, medium height and build, dark complexion, dark whiskers and moustache; dressed in dirty grey-tweed suit and hard black-felt hat.

Between 8 p.m. on the lltli and 7 a.m. on the 12tli ultimo the shop of J. Rendell, Rahotu, Taranaki, was broken into, and the following stolen : A tweed suit, small black-and-brown-check pattern, “ Our own make ” A + / o marked thereon, size 5, value £1 195.; a brown-tweed suit with small white spots through material, marked similarly to the one previously described, value £1 19s. ; twelve silk handkerchiefs, fancy patterns, yellow and black, red and black, and black and white, all striped, value £3 65.; twelve silk handkerchiefs of similar patterns to the ones previously described, but of not so good a quality, value £2 145.; four silk handkerchiefs, plain centres with fancy borders, value £1 25.; two pairs of ladies’ prunella boots, value £1 ; a Timaru grey rug with a brown stripe through it, edges worked with wool, value 165.; a dark-grey-tweed overcoat, value £1 2s. 6d.: a shirt, value 4s. Gd.; 101 b. of Derby brand tobacco, and about £1 in silver. The overcoat, tweed suits, and rug identifiable ; the identification of the other property doubtful.

The purse and gold dollar-pieces, &c., the property of Mrs. Thomas Reseigh, reported stolen from a safe in the Club Hotel, Bluff, have been recovered.

Stolen about the end of June last, from the shop of Joseph Wallis, Waikaia, a new brown overcoat with cape, no sleeves, a brass chain attached to collar; the property of Thomas Watson ; value £2 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 10th ultimo, from the dwelling of Annie Eastwood, Park Street, Kensington, near Dunedin, a gold vine-leaf brooch, about 2in. long and ljin. wide, one leaf broken and repaired ; value £4. Identifiable.

On the 18th ultimo the dwelling of Wong Yuing, Quinn Street, Wellington, was broken into, and about £2 15s. in silver stolen.

On the 6th ultimo the dwelling of Edward Wenmoutli, Hillsborough, near Christchurch, was broken into, and the following stolen : A two-bladed pocket-knife with brown handle, a silver sleeve-link about the size of a shilling, and 10s. or 12s. in silver. Sleeve-link identifiable.

Stolen on the 11th ultimo, from the dwelling of Charles Philip Davis, Kauotanu, Mercury Bay, ten £1 notes.

Between 5.10 p m on the 13th and 8 a.m. on the 14th ultimo the gum store of William Henry Lyon, Customs Street East, Auckland, was broken into, but nothing was stolen.

Stolen about the lltli ultimo, from the dwelling of Hugh Adam, Eglinton Road, Mornington, Dunedin, a gold brooch set with thirteen diamonds, bar-pattern, with horse-shoe in centre ; value £ls. Identifiable.

On the 4th or sth ultimo the store of John Black, Puketi, Kerikeri, Bay of Islands, was broken into, and a small handmade canvas cash-bag, containing five £1 notes on the Bank of Hew Zealand, three sovereigns, about two pounds in silver, and a tin pannikin in which were sixpence in silver and sixpence in coppers, stolen. Bag only identifiable.

Between 11 p.m. on the 21st and S a.m. on the 23rd ultimo the shop of Caroline Revell, Willis Street, Wellington, was broken into, and a quantity of fruit and about sixpence in coppers stolen.

Stolen on the 18tli ultimo, from the person of John O’Brien, while drunk, at Orari, Canterbury, a black-leather purse with double-knob katcli, three compartments, a name written on inside, containing a cheque for £7 on the Colonial Bank, Southbridge, drawn by Robert Mcllrath in favour of John O’Brien, and over £6 in money. Purse and cheque identifiable.

Stolen on the 15th or 16th ultimo, from the Golden Fleece Hotel, Christchurch, a nearly-new liglit-tweed singlebreasted overcoat, check-pattern, with brown stripes through material, two lnp-pockets, a small match-pooket on right side, and an inside right breast-pocket; the property of John O’Sullivan; value £1 15s. Identifiable. There was a cabinet photograph of complainant in one of the pockets.

Between the 2nd November last and the 6th ultimo the dwelling of Frank Coulthard, Herne Bay Road, Ponsonby, Auckland, was broken into and ransacked, but nothing was stolen.

Stealing tools, &c., from the tent of Richard Marsh, Scrubby Terrace, Waikaia: Robert Sutherland and Edward Dennis, youths, have been convicted of this offence, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
