Rewards. The sum of £2 each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Acting Sergeant William Manning and Constable James Meehan, Palmerston North and Feilding Police, in recognition of the praiseworthy zeal and intelligence displayed by them in the prosecution of Herbert Allendale, alias George Morrison, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Wellington, to ten years’ penal servitude for breaking into the post office at Feilding, and stealing a safe containing post-letters and money, &c., therefrom.

The sum of £2 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable Cecil Raymond Seymour, Palmerston North Police, in recognition of the praiseworthy zeal and intelligence displayed by him in the prosecution of Peter Mickelson, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Wellington, to two years’ labour for breaking into a store and stealing a safe containing money and cheques, &e., therefrom.

The sum of £4 has been awarded by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society to Constable John Haddock, Warkworth Police, in recognition of his services in the prosecution of Peter Bayer, fined 10s. and costs for selling game without a license ; and of Frances Bayer, fined ss. and costs for killing game without a license.

The sum of £2 2s. has been awarded by the Royal Insurance Company to Constable Andrew McKnight, Papakura Police, in recognition of the special services rendered by him in supplying information as to the value, &c., of a house and contents destroyed by fire, the property of Samuel Bell, which were insured in the Royal Insurance Office.

The sum of £3 11s. has been awarded by Mr. William Goodwin, of Greenpark, to Constable Patrick Ryan, Christchurch Police, in recognition of his services in recovering a gold watch and chain stolen from him, and the arrest of David Rowlands, sentenced to twelve months’ labour for the offence at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Christchurch.

The sum of £1 has been awarded to Constable William John McGill, Lyttelton Police, for putting six absentee seamen on board the barque “ Oaklands.”

The sum of £2 has been awarded to Constable John Cavanagh, Tauranga Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the prosecution of Edward Douglas, fined £1 Is. and costs on three charges of selling liquor without being duly licensed.

The sum of £1 each has been awarded to Constables Luke McDonnell and Edward Mackay, Auckland Police, for arresting two absentee-seamen, and putting them on board the barque “ Devonport.”

Prohibition-orders. Whenever a prohibition-order has been made, under the provisions of “ The Licensing Act, 1881,” against a person in any place where the Railway Commissioners have granted a license to the tenant of a refreshment-room under section 34 (1) of “ The Government Railways Act, 1887,” care should be taken that a copy of such order shall be served on each tenant in the same manner as if he held a license under the first-mentioned Act. The Railway Commissioners have issued instructions to the lessees to respect such orders, and will insert in future leases a proviso to this effect. W. E. Gudgeon, Commissioner of Police.
