Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Between the 31st ultimo and sth instant the whare of Toko, at Te Ngae, near Botorua, was broken into, and the following stolen: A brown-leather purse, 3s. Gd. in silver, a Geneva watch, maker’s name and number not known, “ Toko” written on inside of case; a greenstone pendant about 3in. long, two silk handkerchiefs (one white and the other red), and a double-rein bridle with red-and-white foreheadband and silver bit and buckles, value £6 45.; also a chamois purse, 10s. in silver, a silver locket about the size of a two-shilling piece, greenstone set in one side, and a gold ring, value £7; the property of Hapata. Identifiable except money.

Breaking into and stealing from the shop of John Gracen Blade, Akaroa: Frank Haylock, aged thirteen years, has been arrested by Sergeant Edward Wilson, Akaroa Police, and convicted of this offence. He is to be brought before the Resident Magistrate with a view to his committal to an industrial school.

Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from a till in the bar of the Pier Hotel, Kaiapoi, a tumbler containing 18s. in silver; the property of Richard Charles Bowden.

Lost or stolen on the 6tli instant, from the person of Mary Sellars, in Lambton Quay, Wellington, a ladies’ small black plain-leather handbag, containing a small silver huntingwatch, flowered cases, maker’s name and number not known, value £2; a silver double albert watch-chain with solid squares about 4in. apart, tassel at end, two common watchkeys attached, value £1 ; and a ladies’ plain gold engage-ment-ring, a white stone set in centre and a ruby in each side, value £2 10s. Breaking into and stealing from the dwelling of Quae Ti and Ah You, at Nainai: Ah Nam has been arrested for this offence by Detective William Campbell and Constable Patrick L. Harnett, Wellington and Lower Hutt Police. The bottle of medicine and £2l of the stolen money have been recovered, and traced to his possession.

Stolen on the 2nd instant, from the Shamrock Hotel, Timaru, a red-and-grey - mixture Mosgiel tweed overcoat with cape, buttons to match, “ D. Mahoney ” stamped on a piece of white tape, which is sewn on the inside of sleeves between the shoulders and elbows ; the property of Daniel Mahoney ; value £4 10s. Identifiable.

Breaking into and stealing from the shop of Messrs. Harvey and Palmer, Lyttelton : This offence was committed by Pekamu Apurcna, alias John Murray (Hone Mare). Most of the stolen property was found in his possession by Constables Patrick McCormack and Thomas Drake, Lyttelton Police, when they arrested him for escaping from Addington Gaol cn the 22nd ultimo.

Stolen cn the 16th ultimo, from a bedroom in the Colonial Restaurant, Willis Street, Wellington, a gentlemen’s gold ring with bloodstone, and a ladies’ gold keeper-ring, had been broken, and is very thin where joined ; the property of Mary Cronin; value £1 ss. Identifiable.

On the 2fth or 28th September last the shop of William Meldrum, sen., Ghortland Street, Auckland, was broken into, and a nearly-new dark-tweed overcoat, recently dyed black, large bone buttons, hip-pockets with flaps, stolen; value £3 12s. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 19fch and 23rd September last, from a bedroora in the Wynyard Arms Hotel, Symonds Street, Auckland, a £5 note and two £1 notes ; the property of Georgina Waddoups. Supposed stolen on the 16tli instant, from the person of William Myatt, while drunk at Otaki, a French silver openfaced watch, No. 111, “ Popalaire Grand Prise, Universal” on movements ; value £2. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 29th September last, from the Albion Hotel, Courtenay Place, Wellington, cr from a tram-car between there and Riddiford Street, a thick red-morocco-leathcr case with handle on top and sliding front, containing an eight-day carriage-clock, about 4in. high, ormolu pillars and comers, top, front, and sides of plate glass, through which the works are visible, watch-movement; the property of Dr. Porter; value £lO. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 3rd and 10th instant, from a box in a bedroom in Callaghan’s restaurant, Pipitea, Wellington, four £5 notes on the Bank of New South Wales; the property of Matthew Brennan.
