William Stewart is charged, on warrant issued by the Wanganui Bench, with embezzling, on tho 15th ultimo, at Wanganui, the sum of £ls 55., the money of Robert Crawford. Description: Supposed a native of the colony, a bushman, about thirty years of age, about sft. 4in. high, medium build, dark complexion and eyes, prominent nose, high cheek-bones, brown hair, clean-shaved except brown moustache ; wore blue coat, brownish-tweed trousers, and black soft-felt hat. Offender and Crawford were partners in a bush-felling contract at Mangawhero, which they completed, when offender was paid £34 10s., the balance due on the contract; but ho only gave Crawford £2 of the amount, saying that he had only received £4, and that the balance was to be paid by the station-manager on the lGtli or 17th ultimo. 1.20 p.m. train for Wellington, supposed with tho intention of going to the Mahakipavva Goldfields.

A man, only known as Harry, is charged with uttering a forged cheque for £7 9s. to H. McLean, hotelkeeper, Amberley, at about 7 p.m. on the 20th ultimo. Description ; Supposed English, a labourer, about forty years of age, about sft. 4in. or Sin. high, stout build, fair hair turning grey, clean-shaved except small fair side whiskers and moustache tinged with grey, broad heavy features, pugnacious expression; dressed in dark-grey check-tweed suit, round grey-tweed hat or a tweed cap, and new bluclier boots. The cheque is drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Amberley, in favour of Henry Strange, and purports to be signed by Robert Sloper, of Glasnevin, near Amberley. Offender worked for Mr. Sloper up to the 20th ultimo, on which date he was discharged, and paid his wages by cheque. A man answering his description was seen going towards Ashley Bank about noon on the 22nd ultimo.

Between 7 p.m. on the 13th and 7 a.m. on the 14th ultimo, at Mongonui, Bay of Islands District, a cast-iron wheel, 12in. in diameter, the property of Robert Wyles, value £l, was maliciously taken off a truck on the Mongonui Wharf, and it is supposed was thrown into the river. A lino attached to a life-buoy on the wharf was cut, and about 10 fathoms of it stolen or thrown into the river.

Between S p.m. on tho 23rd and 9.30 a.m. on the 24th ultimo four troliy-wlieels with axles were maliciously placed on the Wellington and Manawatu Railway-line, near Otaki Bridge, which the morning passenger-train from Wellington encountered,hut, fortunately, the cow-catcher threw them off the line, thus preventing a serious accident.
