A Maori, name unknown, is charged, on warrant issued by the Hawera Bench, with having, on the 27tli ultimo, at Okaiawa, Taranaki District, wilfully broken a pane of glass, value 155., in one of the windows of the store of George Applegate. Description : About twenty years of age, sft. Sin. or 9in. high, a medium build, little if any hair on face ; dressed in dark coat very much torn about the sleeves, brown trousers, and drab-felt hat with crape round it; speaks broken English. Identifiable. He is suspected of breaking into and stealing stamps from the store.

Robert Crawley is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with uttering a forged cheque for £5 10s. to Robert Cate, butcher, Cuba Street, Wellington, at 7 p.m. on the 26th ultimo, Description : A native of the colony, a jockey, twenty-five years of age, sft. sin. high, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair, clean-shaved except moustache ; dresssed in light-tweed suit. The cheque purports to be drawn by Andrew Young in favour of William Collins. Ho is supposed to have gone to Blenheim.

Andrew Brett, alias Fredricson, alias Petersen, alias Semb, is charged with uttering a forged cheque for £4 to Mrs. Breeze, wife of Edward Breeze, at Waiwera, near Clinton, at 6.30 p.m. on the Ist instant. Description : A Norwegian, about thirty years of age, sft. Gin. high, medium build, fair hair, fair sandy beard whiskers and moustache, beard and whiskers clipped short; dressed in light-grey tweed sac-suit and light-tweed stitched hat. lie is identical with Andrew Petersen, charged on warrant with uttering a forged cheque to Denis Moloney, at the Kensington Hotel, near Dunedin. (See Police Gazette, 1888, pages 97 and 107.) The cheque is drawn on the Colonial Bank, Lawrenco, and purports to be signed by James Smith and Sons, of Greenfield Station, in favour of Brett. He purchased from Mrs. Breeze a pair of balmoral boots, two pairs white-cotton socks, a pair of tweed trousers, and a light-tweed stitched hat, and in payment uttered the forged cheque. He left Clinton by the 6 a.m. train on the 2nd instant for Invercargill.

Alfred Kerr is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with having, on the 23rd ultimo, obtained by false pretences from William Mcßeath, George Street, Dunedin, a sac-suit, a brown overcoat, two white shirts, two pairs of socks, and a pair of gloves; value £3 16s. 7d. Description: A native of the colony, a jockey, sixteen years of age, 4ft. lOin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, and brown hair; wore dark sac-suit and soft black hat. He falsely represented that he was sent for the clothing by Mr. Holmes, of Cargill Street.

Frank Godkin Rudkin is charged, on warrant issued by the Hawera Bench, with having, on the 15th ultimo, at Okaiawa, Taranaki District, obtained £6 from John Murdoch by false pretences. Description: A native of England, about seventeen years of age, about sft. Gin. high, medium build,

fair complexion, fair hair, no hair on face ; a recent arrival from Home. He left for Auckland or Onehunga on the Ist instant.

Andrew Brett is charged, on warrant issued by the Lawrence Bench, with uttering a forged cheque for £1 to Jonas Harrop, at Lawrence, on the 31st ultimo. Description: Supposed a German, about thirty years of age, sft. Gin. high, medium build, fair hair, fair sandy beard whiskers and moustache, beard and whiskers clipped short; dressed in lighttweed sac-suit and light-tweed hat; speaks with a slight foreign accent. He is no doubt identical with Andrew Brett, alias Fredricson, alias Petersen, alias Semb, charged with uttering a forged cheque to Mrs. Breeze, at Waimera. The cheque is drawn on the Colonial Bank, Lawrence, and purports to bo signed by James Smith and Son, Greenfield Station, where offender was recently employed for a short time.

On the 29th ultimo, at Aratapu, North Wairoa, Bay of Islands District, the testicles were maliciously cut out of a dog, value £SO, the property of John Neild.

About the 29th ultimo a forged cheque for £G Bs. was uttered by a man, name unknown, of whom no description can be obtained, to Messrs. Taylor and Papps, grocers, High Street, Christchurch, in payment for goods, and received the balance in cash. The cheque is on the Bank of New Zealand, Kaiapoi, and purports to be drawn by Thomas Dickenly in favour of Fred. Lange. No such persons are known at Kaiapoi.
