Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.

Supposed stolen on tho 14th instant, from the stable of the Star Hotel, Emerson Street, Napier, a bay-pony gelding, about 144 hands high, branded C on near shoulder, a small bare patch chafed on wither by saddle value £10; had on an old colonial-made pigskin saddle, an old bridle with small steel bit, and brown forehead band with small red stripes across centre, and an old martingale, value £2 ; the property of James Curruthers Johnstone. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the 15th instant, from the racecourse, Hastings, a brown gelding with wall eye, five years old, 15.4 hands high, blotch brand on near shoulder, shod all round, value £3O ; had on an old saddle with odd stirrup-irons, a single-rein bridle with silver bit, and leather stoppers on rein, value £1 10s.; the property of James Munn. William Keith is charged, on warrant issued by the Leeston Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, on the 11th instant, at Leeston, of a chestnut mare, value £2O, since recovered ; the property of Robert Beattie. Description: Supposed English, a cattle-dealer, about forty-five years of age, Oft. high, medium build, pale complexion, thin fairish beard whiskers and moustache turning grey; dressed in old greyish tweed suit; addicted to drink. lie borrowed the mare from Mr. Beattie on or about the 19th ultimo, and sold her by auction, at Leeston, on tho 11th instant. He is supposed to have gone to Wanganui or Hawcra.

Stolen on the night of the 3rd instant, from a paddock at Addington, Christchurch, a bay hack-mare, about 15 hands high, seven years old, a white spot on middle of back, a lump on inside of off-hind leg between hough and fetlock, broken-kneed, film like cataract over right eye, black points, long tail, long back, and low shoulders, unbranded ; the propert)' of Henry McClintock Tipping; value £B. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the 2nd or 3rd January last, from Puketapu, Hawke’s Bay District, a draught roan mare with white face, about 17 hands high, branded M on near shoulder' with a number over it, but tho number is not known, value £4O ; a grey colt with white face, about 15J hands high, blotch brand on near shoulder, a blemish supposed on near hind leg, value £ls ; and a bay colt with star on forehead, about 15 hands high, branded HK conjoined on near side of neck under mane, value £2O; the property of William Jones. Identifiable. A mob of horses was driven by two men through Puketapu on the 3rd January last, and it is supposed that Mr. Jones’s horses were driven in tho mob, and may have been sold at Cambridge, or on the road to there.

Stolen during February last, from Kaiwaka, Auckland District, a light-draught bay mare, six years old, about 16J hands high, hind and one of fore fetlocks white, blaze down forehead slightly turned to right, flat shoes without a groove for nail-heads on fore feet, unbranded, value £l6 ; and a baypony horse, about 14 ; j hands high, hind legs white, an old sore on right side of back, aged, a good ambler, value £7 ; the property of Norman McMillan. Identifiable. Some Maoris, returning North from a Native meeting held at Port Albert, were seen riding the horses in Waipu about the end of February.

Stolen between the 10th January last and the sth ultimo, from a paddock at Thornbury, near Riverton, about thirty long-wool Lincoln-bred lambs, supposed nearly all rams; like hO branded on near side of some of them and on the top of the back of others, a half- moon punched in the oil ear of the rams and in the near ear of the ewes; the property of Frederick Sutton ; value about £4O. Identifiable if the brand and car-mark have not been obliterated.
