Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Russell, charged on warrant with stealing an overcoat and a pair of gloves, the property of Sydney H. Wickerson, from the Empire Hotel, Peatherston, has been arrested by Constable William Thomas Oollerton, Tenui Police.

Stolen on the 27th July last, from Fernhill Club, .Dunedin, a double-breasted dark-blue-cloth overcoat with velvet collar, “Johnstone, Maker, Sackville Street, London,” on strap at collar, and “ G. M. Bell” written on a white slip under the strap ; the property of George M. Bell; value £B. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Edward Haviland, Scotch, a clerk, thirty years of age, sft. 6in. high, medium build, dark-brown hair turning grey, dark moustache and small side whiskers. He was recently sentenced to two months’ labour for stealing two other overcoats from Pernhill Club.

On the 3rd or 4th instant the store of James Barr, Porirua, \vas broken into, and two dozen bottles of Guinness’s extra Dublin stout stolen ; value £1 45./

Stolen on the 25th or 26th ultimo, from the Robert Burns Hotel, George Street, Dunedin, a tweed waterproof-coat, value £3 10s., since recovered, the property of Timothy Kearney. The coat was subsequently pawned at A. Myers’s pawn office by a man who gave the name of William Brown, which is supposed to be a fictitious name. Description : A labourer, about forty-five years of age, sft. GJin. high, medium build, brown hair beard whiskers and moustache turning grey; wore old brown sac-suit, trousers patched on seat. He is supposed to be identical with Joseph Bonny, who stayed at the hotel on the night previous. He may have gone to the Otago Central Railway-works, where he had previously been employed.

Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from the shop- window of James Smith, Cuba Street, Wellington, two white paste-card boxes, 12in. by 20in. by 3in., marked in pencilling “ Black Velveteen Vh.,” each containing between 38 and 40 yards of black velveteen about 18in. broad ; value about £5. Boxes supposed identifiable ; identification of velveteen doubtful.

Stealing money, &c., from the booking office at the rail-way-station, Timaru, the property of the Government: The bag which contained the money was found under the counter in the parcels office on the 27tli ultimo. It was cut open and only contained the bank-slip.

On the 27th ultimo the dwelling of Ernest Holdaway, Wanganui, was broken into, and the following stolen: A gold-and-white-china sugar-basin, a common delf sugarbasin, a dark-leather pouch about 4in. by sin. with flaps, and £3 in silver. Pouch identifiable.

Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the shop of David Richards, Ross Place, Lawrence, a tin cash-box, llin. by 6in., painted black-and-gold colour, handle broken off, value 10s., containing two £5 notes, fifteen £1 notes, and £2 in silver. Cash-box identifiable.

Stolen on the 31st ultimo, in a dwelling in Usk Street, Oamaru, seven £1 notes ; the property of Charles Joseph.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from the shop of Joseph Parmenter, Otautau, a new horse-cover, between sft. and 6ft. long, lined with white felt, two canvas straps with black buckles, fastens in front with a strap with ljin. black buckle ; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from the dressing-room at the Recreation-ground, Napier, a silver lever hunting-watch, maker Ehrhardt, London, number not known, spring at bow broken ; the property of Harry Mitchell; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from the person of Thomas Charles Adams, at Coromandel, five or six £1 notes.

Stolen between the loth and 22nd ultimo, from the dwelling of Ambrose Rogers, Victoria Avenue, Auckland, an Anglo-Chinese silver war-medal, the Queen’s head on one side, and two field-pieces and flags on the other side, a silverclasp attached ; value £l. Identifiable.

Between 1.45 p.m. on the 21st and 9 a.m. on the 22nd ultimo the warehouse of Arthur Heather, Customs Street, Auckland, was broken into, and the offices and drawers jransacked, but nothing was stolen.

Stolen on the 10th or 11th instant, from a whare at Te Oreore, near Masterton, a nearly-new cardigan jacket, value 175.; an old leather purse, with four compartments and elastic band, containing 11s. in silver, two twopenny stamps, a receipt for £45, a receipt for £6, both dated the 9tli May last; and a silver watch-guard, curb pattern, value £1 10s. ; the property of George Davenport. Purse, chain, and receipts identifiable.

Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from' the Baldwin Hotel, Princes Street, Dunedin, a nearly-new black-cashmere waterproof-coat, torn at one of lapels and repaired ; the property of David Hunter Mervyn; value £2. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from a till in the bar of the Club Hotel, Rangiora, about £3 10s. in silver; the property of Harry Archer.

Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from the bar of the Rotherham Hotel, Amuri, Christchurch District, an old cigar-box, containing about £2 in silver, and two yellow pocketbooks, “ D. Murphy” or “Dan Murphy” written on the inside of the flap of one of them ; value Is. each ; the property of William Allan. The pocketbook with name written thereon identifiable.

Stolen on the Ist instant, from in front of the shop of Clarke and Rive, Cuba Street, Wellington, a boys’ grey Kaiapoi-tweed trousers and vest, size 10; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the Bth instant, from the shop-window of William Clark, Lambton Quay, Wellington, a grey-tweed Norfolk suit, size 3, ticket attached, supposed marked like 260; value £l. Supposed identifiable.

Stolen on the 7th instant, from the shop of Young Chee, Stafford Street, Dunedin, a brownish wooden fancy Chinese box, Gin. by Bin., two packages of cigarettes, two bottles of lemonade, about 41b. of apples, and 41b. of lollies; value 14s. Box identifiable.

Stolen on the Bth instant, from the shop of Eliza Litzenberger, George Street, Dunedin, a ladies’ dark-green cashmere dress, partly worn ; value 15s. Identifiable.

Stealing from the office of the New Zealand Chemical Manure Company, Tauranga: The brace, seven bits, and the rule have been recovered by Constables Abrams and Cavanagh, Tauranga Police. They were found in the possession of William Parks, who was sentenced to thirty days’ labour for receiving them, knowing them to be stolen. He was also sentenced to thirty days’ labour for having other stolen property is his possession.

Between 8 and 10 p.m. on the 3rd instant the store of J. D. Hill, at Otorohanga, Kawhia District, was broken into, and the following stolen: A £lO note on the Bank of New Zealand, dated Auckland, Ist January, 1884, No. 002917; £5 in gold, £4 in silver, and a small cash account-book, sin. by 7in., with cloth cover and brown back. £lO note and cashbook identifiable.

Stolen on the 9th instant, from the shop-door of M. Cleary and Co., Manners Street, Wellington, six china breakfastplates with gold edging, a carpenters’ square, and ten papiermache snuff-boxes; value 6s. 2d.

Stolen between the 16th and 27th ultimo, from the City Restaurant, Lambton Quay, Wellington, a white blanket with black stripe round edge; the property of Charles Breen; value 10s. Identifiable.
