Twenty-five Pounds Reward

Whereas on the 24th May last a farmer named Edmond Morrissey, residing at Ophir, in the County of Vincent, mysteriously disappeared: And whereas it is supposed that some evil has befallen him : Notice is hereby given that a reward of twenty-five pounds will be paid, in case of his death, to the person who shall first give information to the police where his body shall be found. Description : A native of County Tipperary, Ireland, years of age, sft. lOin. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers turning grey. He arrived in Melbourne on the 24th July, 1857, by the ship “ Lady Milton,” and thence proceeded to Otago about 1862, since which he has been a resident of the Lake District. G. S. Whitmore,

Two Hundred Pounds Reward.—Murder,

John Caffery, master of the cutter “ Sovereign of the Seas,” and Henry Albert Penn, the mate, are charged, on Coroner’s warrant, with having, on the morning of the 19th June last, murdered Robert Taylor, by shooting him dead in his house, at Great Barrier Island, near Auckland. Description of offenders: Caffery is a native of the colony, a seaman and labourer, about thirty-six years of age, but looks older, about sft. jin. high, square stout build, about 12 stone weight, brown hair, sandy complexion, face freckled, sandy or brownish goatee and moustache with a reddish tinge, rather small weak greyish eyes, occasionally wears gold earrings, scar on left eyebrow, a star tattooed on right forearm and an anchor on left arm, boil-marks and a mole on right side. Penn is a native of the colony, a seaman and labourer, twenty-four years of age, about sft. 7in. high, slight build, fair complexion but inclined to sallowness, dark eyes, brown hair, and small brown moustache. £2OO reward is offered by the Government for their arrest, or £IOO for such information as will lead to their arrest. painted white, with a yellow stripe round centre, hull black, her name is painted in black letters on both bows and on the stern, registered No. 52415 ; has a new set of sails. She is a fast sailer, and has regularly won the large cutters’ prize at the Auckland annual regatta. The cutter and cargo are the property of Messrs. Henderson and Spraggon, of Auckland. Search has been made along the coast for the cutter and the offenders, but no tidings of them can be obtained, go that they have no doubt left the colony in her. Offenders and a young woman named Grace Reid, alias Grace Graham, are supposed to be the only persons on board. She is a native of Gisborne, a prostitute, about sixteen years of age, about 4ft. lOin. high, medium build, brown hair, pale complexion, HP tattooed on left arm, and WS on one of legs above the knee.
