(See Police Gazette, 1886, page 105.) John Morgan, alias Morgan Jones, alias Edward Jones, charged on warrant with being illegally on the premises of Ellen Wells, has been arrested by Constable John Black, Bakaia Police, and sentenced to two months’ labour.

Robert Alexander Duncan Mowbray, charged on warrant with having embezzled a cheque for £67 12s. sd, the property of the Union Bank of Australia : As the Bank declines going to the expense of the extradition of this offender, it is requested that he may not at present be arrested outside this colony.

Lindsay Flint is charged, on warrant issued by the Balclutha Bench, with having, on the 27th ultimo, at Balclutha, obtained board and lodging, value 7s. 6d., from Stephen Parmenter by false pretences. Description: Supposed English, about fifty-five years of age, sft. Sin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, grey hair beard whiskers and moustache, slightly stooped; wore dark clothes. He says he is travelling - reporter for the Argus. He left Balclutha on the 28th ultimo on foot for Dunedin.

J. ILourigan is charged, on warrant issued by the Marton Bench, with having, on the Bth May last, at Marton, obtained 15s. from Douglas Cowpcr Tennent by false pretences. Description: Supposed Irish, a commission-agent, about twenty-two years of age, sft. 9in. high, fair complexion, thin features, no hair on face ; wore dark-tweed suit and hard felt hat; smart active appearance. He is supposed to have come to Wellington about the 9th May last. He falsely represented that he was travelling-agent for Messrs. T. K. Macdonald and Co., Wellington, and thereby obtained the money for an advertisement to be inserted in their landed property guide.

Description : Irish, a labourer, about thirty-five years of age, sft, llin. high, rather stout build, sandy complexion, dark sandy whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; wore jersey jacket, moleskin trousers, and felt hat. He is supposed to have gone to Mokau or Taranaki, or he may be employed at road-work between Taupo and Wanganui or Taupo and Napier.

William Walsingiiam Gay, alias Wallis, is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with having, on the 29th ultimo, at Auckland, uttered a forged cheque for £4 10s. to James Lang. Description : English, calls himself a commercial traveller, twenty-five years of age, sft. 4in. high, stoutish build, slightly pot-bellied, dark complexion, darkbrown hair, no hair on face except a few hairs on upper lip, large brown eyes, cocked nose, Chinese appearance ; dressed in light-snuff-coloured suit and small black hard hat. The cheque is on the National Bank, Auckland, and purports to be signed by R. B. Emerson. He arrived about four months ago from Sydney, and was heard of in Auckland on the 3rd instant.

Between 7 and 9 p.m. on the 31st ultimo, at South Dunedin, a man of the following description uttered a counterfeit two-shilling piece to Wong Lee: About twentyfive years of age, sft. 9in. or lOin. high, slight build, brown hair, fair moustache, a mark under left eye; wore darkblue clothes and black felt hat; looked as if he did no work. Similar counterfeit coin was uttered at several other places at South Dunedin on the same day, apparently by the same person.
