John Robinson is charged, on warrant issued by the Nelson Bench, with having, on the 22nd ultimo, at Nelson, uttered a foreed cheque for £lO ss. to Robert Allen, manager

of the New Zealand Clothing Depot, Nelson. Description: Supposed a native of Marlborough, twenty-five years of age, sft. 7in. or Sin. high, medium build, brown hair, cleanshaved except moustache, blue eyes; usually wears greytweed suit and grey soft felt hat with crape band. The cheque is on the Colonial Bank, Nelson, and purports to be drawn by W. Kinzett in favour of J. Robertson. Offender indorsed the cheque “W. Robinson.” He left Nelson on the 22nd ultimo by the steamer “ Hawea ” for Wellington, supposed with the intention of going to Sydney. Other charges of a similar nature are pending against him.

Thomas Mason and a man name unknown are charged with having, about 10 p.m. on the 26tli ultimo, at the comer of Stafford and William Streets, Dunedin, demanded money, with menaces, from Emanuel Levy. Description : Mason is between forty and fifty years of age, about sft. Sin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, grey hair, clean-shaved except grey beard. The other man wore a handkerchief over the lower part of his face, which is the only description that can be obtained of him. They are supposed to be still in Dunedin.

On the 20th or 21st ultimo a quantity of broccoli and cabbage in the garden of George Richard Hilton, Ellis Road, South Invercargill, was maliciously trampled down, pulled out of the ground, and damaged to the extent of about £lO.

John Reany is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with being a rogue and vagabond, at Christchurch, on the 24th ultimo. Description: A native of Dunedin, about twenty-five years of age, about sft 9in. or lOin. high, good erect build, dark complexion, clean-shaved except small moustache; wears grey-tweed suit. He is charged with a breach of section 28, subsection 5, of “ The Police Offences Act, 1884.” He is supposed to have gone to Dunedin, where his father keeps an hotel.

Thomas Weddington is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with having, on the 26th ultimo, at Waverley Street, South Dunedin, obtained £3 from Edward Brown by false pretences. Description: English, a butcher, twenty-one years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, fair complexion, very small fair moustache; wore black coat with long skirts, grey-tweed trousers, and hard black-felt hat. Supposed to have gone to Ashburton or Christchurch.

John Moegan, alias John Morgan Jones, alias Edward Jones, is charged, on warrant issued by the Rakaia Bench, with being illegally on the premises of Ellen Wells, at South Rakaia, on the night of the 29th ultimo. Description: A Welshman, about forty-seven years of age, sft. Gin. or 7in. high, medium build, pale complexion, dark eyes, rather sunken, brown hair worn rather long, small fair straggling whiskers and moustache; wore grey-tweed coat and hat,and moleskin trousers. He was summoned for the offence, but he did not appear.
