Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

(See Police Gazette , 1886, page 50.) Alfred Lynch, charged on warrant with deserting his wife, has been arrested by the Greymouth Police, remanded to Wellington, and discharged.

William Southgate, alias Harry Wicks, is charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with deserting his wife and five children at Lyttelton since the Bth March last. Description : A native of Australia, a wharf-labourer, thirtytwo years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved except fair moustache; usually wears blue-serge jacket, moleskin trousers, and black soft felt hat; on Sundays and holidays wears light-tweed suit and hard black-felt hat. About three weeks ago he was working on board a vessel at the wharf, Dunedin, for Messrs. Mills and Co., and was staying at a boarding-house in Cumberland Street.
