Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

(See Police Gazette, 1886, page 57.) John Campbell is now charged, on warrant issued by the Cromwell Bench, with stealing the collie slut from Kawarau Station, the property of William Mclntosh. A reward of £1 is offered for his arrest and conviction, and for the recovery of the dog.

The warrants issued by the Otaki Bench lor the arrest of the men Whiting and Clark, for the larceny as bailees of tools, the property of Cecil Raymond Seymour, have been cancelled ; all the tools have been recovered.

William Jones, charged on warrant with the larceny as a bailee, at Weraroa Railway Camp, of £lO 2s. Bd., the property of Edward John Woolford, has been arrested by Constable Maurice Roche, Paikakariki Police, and sentenced to six months’ labour.

Robert Alston Murray is charged, on warrant issued in Tasmania, with the larceny of £75, the property of the Van Dieman’s Land Company. Description: A Scotchman, an accountant, thirty-seven years of age, about 6ft. high, grey eyes, long straight nose, pointed chin, dark-brown wavy hair turning grey, large beard and moustache, swings his arms when walking, fidgetty manner when sitting, Scotch accent. He left Tasmania on the 25th ultimo.

Charles Beresfoed, alias Musgrove, is charged, on warrant issued by the Gore Bench, with stealing, on the 31st ultimo, from Stoney Creek, Southland District, a brown retriever-dog, since recovered; value £5 ; the property of Thomas Carroll. Description: Supposed English, thirtyeight years of age, sft. 9in. or lOin. high, medium build, fair complexion, clean-shaved except moustache ; dressed in darktweed suit and blue Scotch cap ; fond of drink. He was at Lumsden on the Ist instant. He is supposed to have gone in the direction of Queenstown.

Stolen on the Bth instant, from the clothing of Augustus Webber Eaves, in a room off the Gymnasium Hall, Manners Street, Wellington, ten sovereigns, a half-sovereign, and a £1 note.

Stealing a watch and chain, the property of John Moore j from the cabin of the “ Croydon Lass: ” The watch is a silver hunting one, value £9 9s. The chain is composed of short stout links, with false links inside, a small piece of chain attached for pendant, rather small swivel ; value £4 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 15th February last and the 14th ultimo, at Waipawa, a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Waipawa, for £ls 45., drawn by William J. White in favour of J. F. Woodrofi ; the property of William J. White. Mr. White lost the cheque out of his pocket. The cheque was cashed at Napier, on the 14th ultimo, by a Mr. Radford, for a man, name unknown. Description : Looked like a stationhand, about sft. Sin. high, brown whiskers. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the 31st ultimo or Ist instant, from the railwaystation, Okehu, Wanganui District, two boxes of Elley’s 12 CF cartridges, each box containing a hundred cartridges of Nos. 3 and 4 shot; the property of John Handley; value £ll2s.

Portions of the yacht “ Osprey,” the property of Thomas Christian Christiansen, stolen from the Spit, Napier, have been found on the beach at Moeangiangi, between Napier and Mohaka. About two days after she was missed from the Spit she was left at anchor and abandoned at Moeangiangi, where she sunk and was wrecked. It is now supposed she was taken away by some rival fishermen through malice.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a hawker, name unknown, supposed English, about twenty-three years of age, about sft. 7in. or Bin. high, dark or brown hair; wore dark clothes faded green, and cap with peak.

Stolen on the 25th or 26th ultimo, from off a fence at Glasgow Street, Wanganui, 12 yards of new unbleached twill sheeting ; the property of Dudley Eyre ; value £1 10s.

Stolen on the 4th ultimo, at Opua, near Opunake, a ladies’ open face silver Geneva watch, gold hands, gold round edge of face, number and maker’s name not known, HLS in monogram on outside of back case, value £5; and a silver albert chain, value £1; the property of Charles Strong. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from the auction-rooms of Nolan and Tonks, Hawera, three slightly-damaged yellow boxes, marked e/h, containing three dozen pairs of ladies’ gauntlet riding-gloves, light and dark colours ; the property of Alexander Roger Morrison; value £4 10s. Boxes only identifiable.

Stolen about the 28th February last, from St. Clair, Caversham, a large red male kangaroo-hound, eight years old, about 1001 b. weight, answers to the name “ Fly,” had on a registered collar with “ No. 288, 1886, Caversham,” thereon ; the property of Joseph Francis Nixson ; value £lO. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 21st ultimo, from a box in a railwaywagon, at the railway-station, Auckland, about 501 b. of apples ; the property of the Government; value 11s. 3d.

Stolen on the 24th or 25th ultimo, from the stable of John Curtis, Ashburton, a nearly-new horse-cover, a piece torn out of bottom eyelet-hole at tail, value 10s.; and a leather rope about 20 yards long, 16 yards of it is new, the other part is old, value ss. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen on the sth or 6th instant, from a building in course of erection in Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, a half-rip saw, value 7s. 6d.; a trying-plane, value 7s. 6d.; a level, value Bs.; a bevel, value 35.; a 1-Jin. chisel, value 25.; and a pair of pinchers, value 25.; the property of William Pearce.
