Incendiarism.
Between 5 and 7 p.m. on the Ist instant, at lea Station, Lower Whareama, one and a half stacks of wheat, and a stack of oats, the property of J. G. Andrew, were maliciously set on fire, by which they were destroyed. The fire extended to a threshing-machine, which was also destroyed. The property was value for about £l5O. and was not insured.
Between 9.30 p.m. on the 4th and 5 a.m. on the sth instant a shed at Pakuratahi, Wellington District, containing a quantity of furniture, farm-implements, and engineers’ tools, the property of George Jones, value £IOO, was, with contents, destroyed by fire, which it is supposed was maliciously caused. The shed and contents were insured in the Imperial Office for £75.
Between 6 and 7 p.m. on the Ist instant, at Te Oreore, near Masterton, a stack of straw, value £3O, the property of Benjamin Budden, was destroyed by fire, which it is supposed was maliciously caused. The straw was not insured.
Supposed Arson.—£2s Reward. Constabulary Office, Wellington, sth April, 1886, WHEREAS on the night of the 19th or morning of the 20th January last a bridge, commonly called the Black Bridge, over the Waiaruhe Stream, in charge of the Bay of Islands County Council, was destroyed by fire : And whereas at an inquest held as to the origin of the said fire the following verdict was returned : “That the said bridge at Waiaruhe was wilfully and maliciously set on fire and burned by some person or persons unknown Notice is hereby given that a reward of £25 will be paid by the Government for such information as will lead to the arrest and conviction of the offender or offenders.
