New District established. The Counties of Tuapeka, Clutha, and Bruce have been formed into an independent police district, and placed under the charge of Inspector Moore, Lawrence. Eeversion in Grade. Third-class Sergeant Andrew Berriman, No. 412, reverts to the rank of third-class constable, on transfer from the Field Force to the Police Branch, at his own request.

The sum of £lO has been awarded to Constable William John Pbair, tho Port Police, Nelson, for the arrest of two deserters from the barque “ Ardendee.”

The sums of £25, £2O, £lO, and £5 respectively have been awarded by the Customs Department to Inspector Samuel Goodall, Sergeant James Anderson, and Constables Thomas P. Lister and George A. Tapp, Wellington and Taranaki Police, in recognition of their services in connection with the seizure of an illicit still, &c., and the arrest of Michael Bourke and George Moss, fined £2OO each; John Anderson and Peter Smith, fined £IOO each, or, in default, six months’ imprisonment; and Thomas Lloyd, fined £SO. Bourke, Moss, and Lloyd paid their fines.

(See Police Gazette, 1885, page 150.) The charge of fraudulent bankruptcy preferred against Stephen Stamp Hutchison having been disposed of by the Grand Jury finding no true bill against him, it is therefore no longer necessary to keep him under surveillance.
