Dismissal. Constable Hartley Perks Kayll, No. 2679. Rewards. The sum of £6 has been awarded to Constable Alexander McGilp, Russell Police, for the arrest of two deserters from the barque “ Triton.”

The sum of £5 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Inspector Andrew Thompson, Oamaru Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the prosecution of Maurice Downing, fined £2O and costs for sly grog-selling.

The sum of £lO each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constables John C. Mackenzie and James Murphy, Outram and Nenthorne Police, and the sum of £2 10s. to Constable David Burnett, Green Island Police, in recognition of their services in connection with the prosecution of ten persons, fined £125 and £lB 13s. costs, for sly grog-selling. The liquor seized was also forfeited.

The sum of £5 each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Detective James Joseph Tuohy and Constable John Ryan, Auckland Police, in recognition of the zeal and

promptitude displayed by them in connection with the arrest and prosecution of Robert Prendergast, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Auckland, to death for murder.

The sum of £5 each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Detective Edward Hughes and Constable Denis Bowles, Auckland Police, in recognition of the zeal and promptitude displayed by them in connection with the arrest and prosecution of John Brown, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Auckland, to seven years’ penal servitude for attempted murder.

The sum of £5 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable Morgan O’Flaherty, Blenheim Police, in recognition of his zeal and promptitude in connection with the arrest of John Wilson, alias Colburn, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Blenheim, to five years’ penal servitude and twenty-five lashes for attempted rape on a girl under ten years of age.

The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable John Hawksworth, Nelson Police, in recognition of his tact and perseverance in connection with the arrest and prosecution of Abraham Herman, alias Rapken, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Nelson, to eighteen months’ labour for stealing from a dwelling.

The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable Patrick L. Harnett, Wellington Police, in recog-

nition of his services in connection with the prosecution of Philomcna McHugh, fined £5 and costs for sly grog-selling.

The following amounts have been subscribed by members of the Police Force on behalf of the wife and family of the late Sergeant Charles Langton Neville, who died at Reef ton on the 27th November last: Auckland District, £27 Bs.; West land District, £23 35.; Dunedin District, £2llls. 6d.; Timaru District, £l3 55.; Hawke’s Bay District, £ll 55.; Wanganui District, £ll 3s. lid. ; Nelson District, £9 12s. ; Christchurch District, £9 10s.; Southland District, £7 75.; Wellington District, £7; Lake District, £G 135.: total, £147 18s. sd. Mrs. Neville desires to return her very sincere thanks to the subscribers for their liberal generosity towards herself and family.
