Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.

Supposed stolen on the 17th February last, from Buller Road, near Rcefton, a light-bay saddle-horse, aged, fifteen hands high, branded B on near shoulder, value £ls ; had on a saddle about two years in use, one of flaps rather loose, maker Jones, Nelson, value £3 ; and an old bridle, value 5s ; the property of Leonard McLoughlan. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 7th February last, from a paddock at Waikiwi, near Invercargill, a biack gelding, medium draught breed, four years old, about fifteen and a half hands high, white stripe down face, off-hind leg white, in rather low condition, unbranded; the property of John Henry Smith. Identifiable.

Stolen on the morning of the 16th ultimo, at Ohaupo, a dark-brown pony, four years old, about fourteen hands high, blaze down face, hind fetlocks white, girth-galled on off side,

unbranded; the property of George Colbeck; value £5. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Henry Jones, a deserter from the American ship “ Iroquois,” twenty-one years of age, 5 feet G inches high, dark complexion, small brown moustache, scar on chin, small shot-marks on neck, one of fingernails black and coming off, sailor tattooed on one of arms ; dressed in grey-tweed coat and trousers, and lace-up boots cut in front by an axe ; rough sailor-like appearance. Ho is also suspected of stealing a small saddle with flowered flaps, newly mended across the seat; the property of a man named Ninkey; value £l. He was working at the Ohaupo Saw-mills up to the morning of the 16th ultimo. It is supposed he has gone towards Tauranga or Taupo. It is said that his friends live at the Thames.

Supposed stolen during the night of the 14th ultimo, from a paddock at Warkworth, a bay mare with black points, about seven years old, about thirteen and three-quarter hands high, star on forehead, a white speck on off eye, off side of mouth torn by bit when being broken in, shod all round, unbranded; the property of Archibald Thomson; value £lO. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 12th ultimo, at Featherston, a bay gelding, hack-breed, aged, fourteen and a half hands high, black points, anchor brand on near shoulder; the property of Alexander McKenzie ; value £4O. Identifiable. It is supposed that the person who stole this horse also stole William Buckeridge’s saddle and bridle.

William Walters is charged, on warrant issued by the Clive Bench, with stealing, on the Ist February last, at Clive, a roan mare, about fifteen hands high, aged, branded D on near shoulder; the property of Alfred Dyett; value £ls. Description: About twenty years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, no hair on face; wore blue-serge sac-coat, dark-tweed trousers, black soft felt hat, and light lace-up boots. He exchanged the maro with Samuel Crowther, hotelkeeper, Opipi, for another horse, receiving £3 to boot. He is supposed to have gone to Tauranga.

Stolen on the 23rd or 24th ultimo, from a paddock, at Waimea Road, Nelson, a grey pony-mare, aged, about fourteen hands high, unbranded, answers to the name of Polly; the property of Andrew Bogle.
