Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Thomas Smith is charged, on warrant issued by the Oamaru Bench, with deserting his wife and three children, at Oamaru, since the 13th ultimo. Description: English, a labourer, groom, and gardener, thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, thin features, reddish beard whiskers and moustache ; usually wears darktweed coat, brown-moleskin trousers, and black soft felt hat. He may have gone to one of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company’s stations, near Christchurch, where he was employed about three months ago.
William Lewis, alias George Smith, is charged on warant of commitment to gaol for twenty-four hours’ labour issued by the Christchurch Bench, in default of paying ss. fine and 2s. costs for creating a disturbance in the streets at Christchurch on the 2nd January last. Description: A West Indian negro, a groom, 4 feet 6 inches high, slight build, very much bow-legged; boasts of having ridden races in Victoria ; of intemperate habits.
Charles Wakefield is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with deserting his two children, at Dunedin, since about the Ist January last. Description: A native of Victoria, a carpenter, about thirty years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slight build, fair complexion and hair, clean-shaved except small fair moustache; generally wears grey clothes.
David Sampson is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with disobeying an order to pay 7s. 6d. per week towards the support of his illegitimate child. Description : English, a labourer, lately a member of the Salvation Army, about thirty-eight years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair beard whiskers and moustache, very short-sighted ; wore dark saccoat, brown-tweed trousers, and black cheese-cutter cap. He was £9 in arrears on the 4th instant.
Walter George Willoughby is charged, on warrant issued by the Gisborne Bench, with deserting his wife. Description: English, a carpenter, thirty years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, reddish beard and moustache, two small scars on nose, small lump on right little finger; dressed in brown or dark-brown slop-made tweed suit and black hard felt hat. He left Napier by the 8 p.m. train on the 10th instant.

The warrant issued by the New Plymouth Bench for the arrest of William Hart, for deserting his wife, has been cancelled.
