Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

George Lee is charged, on warrant issued by the Coromandel Bench, with stealing, on the Ist ultimo, from the engine-room of the Kapanga Gold Mine, Coromandel, a blueserge coat, a memorandum-book, a common-leather purse containing 11s. 6d. in silver, a gold ring with a white stone with a woman in centre, 2s. worth of postage-stamps, a skull cap, and a stick of tobacco; the property of Henry Becker; value

about £3 10s. The coat has been recovered. Purse and ring identifiable. Description: Irish, a miner, about fifty years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, medium build, sallow complexion, small grey eyes rather weak-looking, dark-brown hair, very thick full beard whiskers and moustache clipped short and turning grey, shoulders slightly stooped ; when last seen wore dark-grey tweed suit and black hard felt hat. It is supposed he has gone to Auckland.

Stolen on the 15tli ultimo, on board the steamer “ Arawa,” at Lyttelton, a dark-tweed overcoat, a black-cloth dress-coat and vest, and two white ties; the property of Alfred Gosling; value £4. Identifiable, except ties. Firemen belonging to the steamer suspected.

Stolen on the 10th December last, on board the schooner “ Atlanta," at Mechanics’ Bay, Auckland, a single-breasted blue-serge sac-coat, a vest of same material, a silver Waltham watch, No. 18186, a silver albert chain, attached to which was a large silver oval locket containing photographs of complainant and a young lady ; the property of Andrew Anderson; value £8 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 10th ultimo, at Christchurch, a pair of field-glasses, value £l, since recovered ; the property of George Ferguson. The glasses were pawned at Davis’s pawn office the day they were stolen by a man who gave his name as John James, which, it is believed, is a fictitious name. Description : About thirty years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, small beard whiskers and moustache of recent growth ; wore dark-tweed coat and vest and black soft felt hat. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 22nd and 24th November last, from the railway goods-shed, at Edendale, Southland, two bags of rye-grass seed containing about 701 b. each, bags marked OB ; the property of Royse, Stead, and Co.; value £2 18s. 4d. Bags identifiable.

Stolen on the 23rd December last, from the yard of the Commercial Hotel, Kaikoura, Marlborough, a white goose; the property of Joseph Mitchell; value Bs.

Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from a cage on the premises of Bernard Krull, George Street, Dunedin, a common yellow male canary and a green-and-yellow female canary; both value £1 10s.

Stolen during the night of the sth ultimo, off the door of R. C. Bulkley, Grey Street, Wellington, a japanned-zinc sign with the following inscription in gold letters thereon : “ Mr. Bulkley, Surgeon-dentist. Hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.” Value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 21st or 22nd ultimo, from the sale-yard of Messrs. Hunter and Nolan, Auckland, a new leather horsecollar lined with leather, a large draught Scotch collar mounted with brass and lined with striped serge, common grey breeching mounted with brass, and a pair of iron drayhames; value £4. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 17th ultimo, from a case in front of the shop of Halby and Co., George Street, Dunedin, three silk handkerchiefs, cap, whip, and horse-head pattern; value 16s. 6d.

Stolen during the night of the 15th instant, from a cabin on board the steamer “ Arawa,” at Lyttelton, four £1 notes ; the property of James M. Roberts.

with dark lining, about size 5, two outside hip-pockets and an outside breast-pocket; the property of Thomas Farrell; value £2. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 12th and 16th ultimo, from the premises of John Newton and Co., Waianakarua, Otepopo, six muscovy duck eggs; value about 6s.

Stolen on the 15th ultimo, from the coat-pocket of Patrick O’Hara, in Eenall Street, Ponsonby, Auckland, an old chamois purse with clasp on top, containing two halfsovereigns, an old five-shilling piece, 9s. in silver, a fourpenny piece, and 3d. in coppers. Purse, five-shilling piece, and one of pence identifiable.

Stolen between the 2nd August last and the 26th ultimo, from the railway-works at Little River, Canterbury, a number of tents, various sizes, some marked N -t- Z in several places, and some supposed to be marked “ B. HALE, Maker, Christchurch,” those marked thus are old and a good deal worn. Others are marked A, B, or C, in red paint, near door, with a number after the letter, in addition to which the broad-arrow may be marked on some of them, various sizes, and nearly new ; the property of the Government; value about 10s. each. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to some of the men who were employed on the works, and who are now supposed to be harvesting in the Canterbury District or to have gone to Christchurch.

Stolen on the 27th or 28th ultimo, from of! a buggy in the yard of W. G. Haybittle, at Feilding, an unbleachedcalico sheet about 12 feet square, two calico bands 2 inches wide sewn at each corner and one at centre, two brown stains near comers ; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 28th ultimo, from a stable, at Feilding, a nearly-new pigskin saddle with small kneepads, makers Mason and Struthers, Christchurch, whose names are on the nail-heads and supposed under the flaps, large common stirrup-irons, one a little bent, a new leather girth, and an old single-rein bridle with nickle - silver bit; value £5. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 24th and 26th ultimo, at Longbeach, Purakanui, near Port Chalmers, a 141 b., an 81b., a 41b., and two 31b. stone-hammers with manuka handles, and a shorthandled shovel; the property of William Brook; value £2. Identifiable.
