Incendiarism.

During the night of the 26th ultimo, at Wairio, Southland District, a house, the property of Timothy Flynn, was with its contents destroyed by fire, which it is supposed was maliciously caused. The house and furniture were insured for £l5O in the South British Office.

About 11 p.m. on the Bth instant an unoccupied sixroomed house, at Iteefton, the property of Maurice Levy, value £IOO, was maliciously set on fire, by which it was destroyed. The house was not insured.

About 9 p.m. on the 12th instant, at Leeston, an eightroomed house, the property of James Clark, of Christchurch, and occupied by Thomas Frankish, was maliciously set on fire from the outside of the building, but the fire was discovered and extinguished before much damage was done. A corn-sack, partly burned and smelling very strongly of kerosene oil, was found under the house. On the morning of the same day a piece of newspaper containing some matches, with some dry gorse and partly-burned pieces of wood, were found close to the weather-boards on the other side of tlio house. Mr. Frankish has his furniture insured in the South British Office for £250, which amount is said to be less than its value.
