Rewards.

The sum of £4 has been awarded by the Auckland Acclimatization Society to Constable Nixon Scott, Te Kopuru Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the prosecution of E. M. Rope and William Ringrose, convicted for breaches of “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880.”

The sums of £4 and £2 respectively have been awarded by the Customs Department to Constable Thomas Joseph McCormack and Sergeant William Thomas Mason, Lyttelton Police, in recognition of theii services in connection with the seizure of a quantity of tea from G. Cavendale, at Lyttelton, on the 2nd April last.

The sum of £4 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable William Coughlan, Kawakawa Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the prosecution of Charles Kennedy, convicted on two charges of sly grogselling.

The sum of £2 10s. each has been awarded by the Union Insurance Company and Messrs. Radford and Cohen to Constables Nicholas Marsh and John J. Weathered, Napier Police, in recognition of their prompt exertions in extinguishing a fire in the draper’s shop of Mr. S. G. Radford, Hastings Street, on the 11th June last, thereby preventing the destruction of a considerable amount of property.

The sum of 10s. has been awarded to Constable E. J. Lawliss, Hastings Police, by Mr. T. Cross, of Poranaghau, for the recovery of two dogs lost by him.

The sum of £1 has been awarded to Constable John J. Weathered, Clive Police, by Mr. W. H. Nelson, in recognition of his exertions in following up, and causing to be destroyed, a dog which had killed and worried several of his sheep.

The sum of £1 3s. 4d. each has been awarded to Sergeant William Thomas Mason and Constables Patrick McCormack, Patrick J. Herlihy, Timothy O’Connor, Thomas Drake, and Thomas J. McCormack, Lyttelton Police, for the prevention of desertion, &c., from the steamers “Ruapehu” and “ Coptic ” while at Lyttelton.

The sum of £2 has been awarded to Constable Thomas J. McCormack, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of a deserter from the barque “ Thomas Bell.”

The sum of £1 each has been awarded to Sergeant William Thomas Mason and Constables Patrick J. Herlihy and Timothy O’Connor, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of a deserter from the steamer “ Ruapehu.”

The sum of £5 each has been awarded to Constables Patrick McCormack and Timothy O’Connor, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of a deserter from the barque “ Clairmont.”
