Deserters from Merchant Vessels.

John Whiting, Frederick Philpot, A. Mitchell, W. Lamb, and John McCarthy, able seamen, are charged, on warrants issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the steamer “ British Queen,” at Wellington, during the night of the 17th ultimo. Description : Whiting is English, thirtyfive years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, dark beard whiskers and moustache. Philpot is English, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, brown hair, no hair on face. Mitchell is English, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, light-brown hair, no hair on face. Lamb is English, thirty-two years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, medium build, dark hair, clean-shaved except brown moustache. McCarthy is Irish, thirty-eight years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, dark hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache. A reward of £3 each is offered for their arrest.

George Ruaston and A. M. Andersen are charged with deserting from the ship “ City of Nankin,” at Lyttelton, between the 18th and 22nd ultimo. Description : Ruaston is a Dane, an ordinary seaman, eighteen years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, thin face, long nose, no hair on face, slouching gait. Andersen is a Dane, an able seaman, twenty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, long face, a few straggling hairs on face; stooped, slovenly gait.
