Resignations. Constable James Galvin, No. 1141. Constable John O’Donohue, No. 1357. Constable William Brown, No. 1980. Constable John Stamp Hobbs, No. 2123. Rewards. The sum of £2 each has been awarded to Sergeant William Thomas Mason and Constables Patrick McCormack, and Thomas Drake, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of three deserters from the barque “ Ada W. Melmore.”
The sum of £8 has been awarded to Detective Robert R. Jones, Christchurch Police, for the arrest of a deserter from H.M.S. “Espiegle.”
The sum of £1 has been awarded to Sergeant Francis H. Morice, Christchurch Police, for the arrest of a straggler from H.M.S. “ Espiegle.”
The sum of £3 each has been awarded to Sergeant William Thomas Mason and Constables Patrick McCormack, Patrick J. Herlihy, Thomas Drake, and Thomas Joseph McCormack, and the sum of £1 to Constable Timothy O’Connor, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of two seamen for deserting from the steamer “ Aorangi,” and for special attention in the prevention of desertion from the steamer, and causing refractory firemen to be placed on board her.
The sum of £2 has been awarded to Constable Thomas Leitch, Clive Police, for the arrest of two deserters from the ship “ Helen Denny.”
The sum of £lO each has been awarded to Detective Thomas Neil and Sergeant Francis H. Morice, and the sums of £3 and £1 respectively to Constables Baptist Wallace and William Daly, Christchurch Police, in recognition of their services in connection with the arrest and prosecution of Joseph Cryer, fined £25 and costs for smuggling jewellery; value about £2OO. The jewellery was confiscated.
The police station at Danevirk, Hawke’s Bay District, has been reopened temporarily.
